Filipino parents are some of the most demanding, needy, irrational, and self-centered parents I know. I never thought I'd consider cutting ties with them but now I'm starting to get really tired of their drama.

Drama is so Filipino.

Couldn't remember when that showed up here. Not sure if it was before the sale. Just to check back in the wife has been researching methods on proper preparation. If it comes out well ill post some pics yo!

Here's what I've done, in the past, making the ramen burger.

1. cook the noodles in water.

2. drain, let sit till room temperature. (Optional, put in frig after, getting them cold)

3. use a metal form (think egg form for the egg mcMuffin) on the frypan and lightly brown on both sides, without putting the meat in yet. Not need the form on the flip, but is useful, just in case. Suggest canola spray on the fry pan. DO NOT COOK on frypan after draining, as the noodles will then turn into mush, similar to instant potatoes.

Can experiment with ramen noodle types, or even other noodle types - yer wife is ethnic chinese so she might have other ideas for the noodle types to use.

If'n yer a griller type of guy, I don't suggest to put the noodle bun on the grill ..

No idea. I found it on a random image search.

Oh, it isn't. I thought the sword was another gun. Plus Roland didn't have any armor. Cool pic though. I like neat character drawings like that. Yeah I said neat, what of it?

That's for the advice! I'll forward on to her for her ref.

On a side note, we picked up a wok for her this weekend in Canada. Started out with the basic iron style but not necessarily a cheapo one. If she has some success outside of steaming, we may look at getting a nice stainless one. Granted it will be our version of nice since we're not millionaires by any means.

Stainless is over-rated. There's a seasoning process to do for a new iron wok. She might know of it, but not know the process. Best to check in with the cooker in her family back in Canada, get the real scoop. Unless, of course, she has a krewe of chinese aunties locally. Note - the krewe of Local Chinese Aunties might bring more drama INTO YOUR relationship, but there's balance in there, at some point - yer wife might be lonely on occassion, and having a local krewe come in for a Saturday cooking bacchanalia is a big dealio.

Want some Chinese Food Porn for yer personal viewing pleasure? Watch the first five minutes of 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman' movie. Sure - it's a Taiwanese movie, but you can find it.

Just coat it with vegetable oil and place it in a warm oven on low heat for a while. As long as you remember to deglaze the pan while hot each time, it should be easy to clean.

She does know about it. She's starting the process today while I'm not there. As you mentioned, her mom and dad were coaching her on accepted methods for seasoning. Something about oil and ovens, I dunno I spaced out.

There's no Chinese in Kentucky. Well, at least not HKer's and at least not in this city. Cincinnati seems to have a decent sized Asian population. We stopped at an Asian market on the way home yesterday and it was quite nice. Not sure if you've been to a T&T in Canada but my wife holds everything to that standard when it comes to Asian markets. The one we went to yesterday was big, clean, and even had all the Taiwan/HK brands she likes. So she would have been pretty excited if Cinci wasn't a three hour drive one way. We even got some of the (what I call) desert tofu.

As for the drama.......... for real.

G - hint - find the Chinese Students Association at one of the local universities. That'll be the social entry point - folk gang together .. Show up at some of the meetings and events. Not need to be a student to show up. You really in Bowling Green? Hang out at:

Good call. She signed up for a class there in her field with just such hopes. But i suppose I could be a little more proactive in taking her there. I am Alumni.
