I had satellite tv through the Dish Network about 6 years ago. Hated it, the picture would go all pixley from time to time and whenever their was a bad storm, I would lose the signal altogether, ruined many shows and games I was watching. I am sticking with cable from here on in.

I hate our cable company. And they don't offer a lot of the sports packages that my husband and I want. :(

You should snort powders, drink liquids and smoke everything else.

Trust me Spooky, this wasn't by design. I've got a splitting headache now. On a good note, it appears there is no stain on my shirt.

I've got Comcast for my tv and internet, they're ok, but they don't offer those sports packages either.

We are thinking about switching to DIRECTV and I was browsing their site to see how much I can expect to pay for what we want.

And of course, one of those 'live reps' messages you and asks if you need any help. The guy introduced himself as a "product specialist" .. so I asked him how much a certain product would cost (NHL Center Ice so I can watch Ottawa games) ... and he told me to call customer service.

I asked why I would need to do that when I'm essentially talking to customer service.

He said he can help me with packages and receivers. I said I wanted to know how much the NHL package was and he once again told me that he could not help me.

He said since it's the off season, he can't tell me. If it were the hockey season, he'd be able to. But if I call customer service, they can help.

I told him not to introduce himself as a product specialist if he can't help answering questions about a product. He then disconnected the chat AND cleared the history so I couldn't copy/paste it.

Good experience with DIRECTV so far....

I liked DirecTV when we had it, for 20 years. The problem we have where I live is too many tall trees, and it became more and more difficult to find a clear path to the southern sky. I wanted to switch to cable mainly for that reason for the longest time, but because my business is home based, they would not sell me cable at residential rates. Finally Comcast ceased that foolishness, and I have been on cable for less than a year.

My phone, cable, and internet cost less than 50% of what was paying before.

The voice quality of VOIP is superior to what the phone company was offering, with more features and unlimited local and long distance. I did lose my local listing, however, when I ported the number, and there have been a few outages already, very rare with the phone company.

The internet is screaming by comparison to DSL. I have over 50 Mbps on the cable modem, as opposed to the 8 Mbs on the fastest available DSL available.

For TV, I miss a lot of the functionality of the DirecTV receivers. I also miss a lot of the programming that is not available on cable.

The Xfinity platform is a work in progress, and was unreliable. Six months later, they seem to have worked out most of the problems. Outages are not as frequent. I think we had one outage in the last 60 days. Compared to DirecTV, when I had signal, it was great, but when the wind blew, or it had been raining, I would lose signal, for up to a week or more. There just wasn't a enough clear sky for me. But even with nothing to block the signal, you will get rain fade, and when it is really storming outside, you will not be able to watch DirecTV.

All service providers jack their rates once the introductory period is over, and DirecTV is no exception. Expect to pay $120/month or more, for what you will get with your introductory package. However, I did find I could call them up, and "negotiate". I usually got them to knock of 10-20% off the monthly rate, and throw in free Showtime.

I got married. I don't need those sport packages anymore. After the Rams finally won a Superbowl and when Shaq left the Lakers, I pretty much lost interest in professional sports. Then when I found out wrestling was fake, it was all over for me.

You thought wrestling was for real? American males are so naive at times it is cute.
