you need to differentiate between:

1. prior years tax data

2. current annual income

pay stubs and letter of employment prove up #2,

tax transcripts from the IRS prove up #1.

You might want to rethink your plan a bit.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You have to provide a complete tax return for each year. This means the entire tax return (1040 or 1040A or 1040 EZ and all schedules). Along with this you have to provide all your w-2s. OR you can provide a tax transcript obtained from the IRS for free. You also need to include the employment letter and current paystubs.

What do you mean?

Exactly what i've written.. That is what I mean. No hidden subtext, no subterfuge, I mean 'exactly what I've written'.

From reading previous year's posters, I think that as long as your income is sufficient and you have a letter from your employer, your w-2 and a few pay stubs should suffice...

They are two completely separate things. Current income needs to be proven and needs to be sufficient. And, they need to send the previous year tax return (which could either be the tax return + w-2, or the tax return transcript) and fill in the income number from the tax return on the I-864 form. What number it says on the tax return doesn't matter for sponsorship; they just need to provide it.

It's my understanding that unless you are self-employed, a letter from your bank and employer should suffice.
