Hello, Board

I want to bring a friend to US to study English in the local college. College will submit her I-20 for F-1 visa. I am assisting my friend in filling out the application. I am planning on helping her with the tuition, so I am planning on being a sponsor and get her to place my name on application. Will the fact that I am a MALE and sponsoring a FEMALE going to be a problem for American Consulate in Russia and ICE?

Thank you for your thoughts.

It may be potentially seen as a 'tie' to the US. What male does so much for a 'friend' in Russia?

good luck

So it sounds like she should pay her own tuition and not even mention any sponsorship for all intents and purposes.

More than that she should able able to show proof she can afford the cost of tuition and housing while in the US.

If you guys have nothing to hide from the USCIS you need not worry.

They don't have institutions in Russia that teaches English?

Coming to US to learn English itself is a long shot.

Logically it would be much cheaper to attend a top notch institute in Russia where she can learn English over to coming to US to learn English.

Thats what she will have to convience the CO why she is opting to go to US to learn English and not learning in her home country.

In general similar excuse have been used to obtain student or tourist visa and later abused so COs are skeptical when one gives the primary reason for the visit is to learn English.

Also young single woman from Russia or around the region have hard time getting visa as lot of them forget to return home after the step on US soil and embassy there is aware of it.
