First of all I apologize if this is in the wrong section, not sure where it should go at this point.

I entered the US on May 11th via Chicago airport on a K1 visa, I handed my envelope over to the immigration officer etc, I wasn't given an i-94 because they are automated now. I got married yesterday and was having a look at what I need to do now i.e.

I've been waiting on my SSN because I ticked the box on one of the forums for the K1 which said it would be sent a few weeks after I entered the US, so far I've had nothing. Now I've heard I cannot find out on the phone because the SSA need to verify who you are so it has to be in person, now thinking if for any reason there was an issue with the process I was just going to apply for one then and there with the SS-5 form however it states I need my i-94.

I looked online for my i-94 but it's coming back 'not found'. I do have a blue stamp next to and on my K1 visa in my passport that says admitted into the USA along with the date and 90 days written in pen, there are no other numbers (I've seen people mention a 'A#' number which I haven't got.

That pretty well sums up my situation, I guess my question is who should I contact in order to find my i-94 since it comes up as 'not found' since I cannot find anything which mentions this on the CBP site unless it comes under incorrect details.

After a bit more research it looks like the part on the DS-230 for the SSN is not applicable for K visas although I'm pretty sure I read something on the SSN website that it did work for K visas, either way I think at this point I'll have to apply normally'

Ticking the box does nothing as far as I can tell. It may help get the K-1 visa holder's information into the SAVE data, but you still have to hoof it down to your local SSA office to get your SSN. Now that they have added a new wrinkle with the electronic I-94 form, it may be a bit more difficult. Try to get a print out of the I-94 form from the CBP website here and take along a copy of that page just to help train teh SSA workers who may still be clueless. You will need the passport, the I-94 form, and I would take a long a copy of the birth certificate as some require a second form of ID and others do not. I would also take notes of date, time, who you spoke to, what they told you so you can document an e-mail to the main SSA website if you should walk out of there without a successful SSN application. You have from about 2 weeks after arrival until about 2 weeks before the I-94 expires. After that you will need the EAD card or GC. Applying in the maiden name is easier, but you can use the Marriage Certificate to get the SSC in the married name if desired.

In looking over the CBP website, they officially automated the I-94 on May 21st--10 days after you arrived. So your information may take 30-60 days to get entered into the system. If it gets too much later I would go to the CBP deferred inspection station at your local international airport and see whaat is up with your I-94--information may have been entered incorrectly.

Good luck,

Dave

Thanks for the responses, I will be applying for a SSN down at the local office, but I'm still stuck with my i-94 showing up as 'Not Found' when entering the details. Should I be calling the USCIS?

USCIS has NOTHING to do with the I-94. CBP does. You need to find a deferrred inspection station usually located at an international airport and call them up to make an appointment and go visit them in regards to your I-94 not being found. It might be an issue that your information is not entered yet or it was entered incorrectly. You arrived 10 days before the new automatic system went live and are now caught in the transition.

You need to find the deferred inspection station closest to where you live and go visit them to get this resolved before your time to get a SSN using the I-94 runs out.
