Hi everyone,

I've just got my immigrant visa with a DV program, now I'm wondering if I really should leave my country and start a new life in the USA.

I graduated in 2012, have a master degree in IT sciences, and I've just started working few months ago for one of the best companies in morocco, my natal country. in reality I don't have any close person in the us that may help or give information about the life out there, could you give me some answers if it's possible about the question below:

  • How long will it take me, aproximatively, to find a job in my domain of expertize, knowing that I'm an immigrant and with no much work experience, and how much will be my salary.
  • Wich's the difference between living in a big city (like DC or NY) and a little city, and what should I choose.
  • what's the scal for a rental little studio where I'll fit.

Thank you for your help.

IT is a hard path sometimes. Some people get lucky and find something quickly and others struggle. One of the keys is how perfect your spoken English is. It is always easier if you are easily understood. The cost of living in big cities can make it seem like you are working for nothing. Google cost of living in cities that may interest you. I would also look at crimes in the local area. Moving to the US may not be for everyone.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

  • How long will it take me, aproximatively, to find a job in my domain of expertize, knowing that I'm an immigrant and with no much work experience, and how much will be my salary. Why not contact companies here now while you are still in Morocco and see what their responses will be? Other people will hopefully come along with more detailed information about your field of work.
  • Wich's the difference between living in a big city (like DC or NY) and a little city, and what should I choose. Boston has a lot of Moroccan immigrants. It is more expensive to live there than a small town however. But you at least will get the benefit of other immigrants like yourself. It is hard to live in a small town where there are little immigrants, as they don't really understand what you are going through.
  • what's the scal for a rental little studio where I'll fit. Here are some cost of living indexes, which might help you:
  • http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/rankings.jsp

Thank you for your help.

My country is made of immigrants who have made a decent life in the US

Don't be afraid of the change. If you are muslim as i believe, contact the mosque in the area you settle in, and they will assist in you to settle

Even think to contact them ahead of coming and ask for assistance

Like somone says, big cities are expensive as are some states.

but with your education, don't fear anything

You are young and this is a great opportunity

You can do anything you put your mind to

Thx guys for you answer, It really mean a lot :D.

I have those two past days heard that I'll need to get the equivalency for my master degree (it's a degree from an international french school), is that true ?!

and is it mandatory that I subscribe to military services (I'll be 26 in January 2014) ?!

You will need to register for the selective service, but this doesn't mean you are in the military or have to serve. You are just registering. No one has been drafted since the Vietnam War. See here: http://hamilton.usconsulate.gov/selective_service.html

The other question, someone with a similar experience will hopefully come along.
