I cried for home nearly every day. It was pretty bad. It's amazing what a little EAD/AP card can do. I was suddenly un-stuck and could go and do things that didn't just include housework! Weee.

Someone needs to write a guide on what to do in those first few months for the beneficiary, because it hit me like a truck.

Interesting... I have heard the same comment from a lot of people... I think we take it for granted that everyday life is what it is and never really stop to think about the adjustment for the spouse... Also, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that after all the anxiety and excitement during the visa process, being here at last is somewhat anti-climatic...

For me, I was so excited to get here and get my life started again that I wasn't really thinking about what it would be like. I was so focused on the logistics of it. Renting trucks, moving furniture, unpacking, bringing my dog, getting our paperwork together, getting married, etc. It wasn't until all that was done that I was just sitting in our living room with nothing to do and I lost it.

I suddenly realized I wasn't "home", my family and friends weren't here, I didn't have a job to go to, I couldn't just go run an errand because I didn't have a driver's license OR a car at the time. I was suddenly just alone in my house, which I loved, but I missed everything back home and I missed feeling useful. I was happy to be here, but at the same time, I wanted nothing more than to go home. It was a weird feeling, and I unintentionally made my husband feel horrible about it.

It wasn't the easy adjustment I was expecting, that's for sure.

Wait, I thought this was passed by congress? How are we blaming one guy?

If we wouldn't have been chicken little after 9/11 we wouldn't have this enormous boondoggle.

Sure Obama is wrong to continue it...but I thought he was the most LIBERAL President EVER!

So what is he now? I guess it depends on what day it is.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

For sure. We have a nearly identical situation. I try to save errands for her. Its not like I don't want to do stuff like deal with the cable company, go to the bank, or get stamps or that I think its her job to do. But she feels like she doesn't contribute and outside of a job, which she is now looking into, I'm not sure what else to do to make her feel like a contributing member. I mean, you can explain the situation all day to your spouse but it doesn't seem to help. I suppose time and a new job will be the best bet.

I think we're seeing exactly what power a president has without the support of congress at this very moment.

Same with my wife Penny. No job, no friends and not knowing the area can be a real strain on ones mental state.

Lot of part time jobs out there.. Several of the my wife's Pinay friends who have been here a year are working..

Look up volunteer stuff. A great way to meet people.

Good for you!

I can't handle not working. I mean, my job now is slow and boring at times, but it's something and it's somewhere to go every day. Staying at home the first few months when I came to the US, I almost lost my damn mind.

I don't plan on 'not working' again until it's time for babies.

Your job slow. Wonder what you do to fill your time, MRS never post a night :)

I don't think I could sit home either, I'd have to be doing something, even if it was part time. Good luck in your new venture NB. I would like to move outta heeyah eventually too.

sleeping to 10 every day, going to the gym in the Morning when no one was there, and watching re runs of Magnum count !

Yes, it will get better in time. Having a place to go everyday is huge. Having a vehicle is also a big plus, even if it's just to run those errands, at least she gets out of the house for a bit and does something different.

I bought my wife a Prius and a Mustang GT. At 1.5 years she has no interest in driving, even though she got her learners perment a while back. She says she is very content to stay home and do her thing.

Yep, we decided to leave her car in Canada so we bought her a car within a few weeks of her being here. Got her the second car on her wish list as I convinced her a Mini wouldn't be very practical. content.gif

My wife has been working full time for almost two years now, but she was going nuts the first 3 or 4 months she was here. She used to spend some of her her mornings at Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks and her afternoons at the local library to help pass the time while I was here posting on VJ(or as I refer to it, working)laughing.gif .

The gym would be awesome. I suck motivation-wise to go to the gym after work.

We have the Benghazi Lies and cover up

Justice dept spying on Reproters

IRS going after political enemies

EPA doing the same

Now we find out the NSA is spying on all of us

and all many of you can do is point fingers at a crappy President from 6 years ago..

FREAKING AMAZING

There are days when I have nothing to do and days when I have too much to do. It all evens out. And yes, I get 99% of my VJing done at night. I like having content to read when I get into the office in the morning.

Once I got my license, I got my own car. And it made all the difference in the world.

this is so twilight zone.

why did you all not have a problem with this under bush? because the purpose was honorable and carried out by honorable government to "fight terrorism"?

and what is the reason obama is continuing such surveillance? socialist muslim brotherhood world domniation? gotta get those fema camp guest lists going?

interesting.

Who said there was no problem patriot act singed under Bush should never have happened but Obama fought his first election based on he was going to change things but nothing changed and it still continues today.

As I posted on other thread, this is not Republican or Democrat issue gathering of records from ISPs , phone companies etc should never happen without a reasonable cause and a warrant.

There is no proof that "enemies" were went after...nobody stopped anyone from claiming 501c. (Even though a political group has no business claiming 501c based on Federal law) No groups were investigated by the justice department, nobody was detained, stopped or harassed. If you call filing out an additional form harassment then I don't know what to say.

Benghazi? Really...lol, stop watching Fox please...

I bet when your postman doesn't deliver mail is it Obama's fault...well he is in charge of the post office right? Comical...

As for the rest, you might want to read the Patriot Act. That activity has all been used and has been totally legal for over 10 years. I was appalled then and I'm still appalled but ITS NOTHING NEW. It is of course news to the people who wanted to "be safe".

Hey, everyone that loved the Patriot Act getting passed, enjoy your safety...

Its like you're just finding out cigarettes are bad or Santa isn't real? You really can't be this naive.
