Hello, Im a new US citizen, I derived my citizenship through my parents. I only stayed in the US for 2 months and have gone back to the philippines for schooling. My question is, do I need to re-aquire my filipino citizenship? or did I retain it? Im 17 years old. I stayed in the US, March 26- June 1. thank you :D

Can you explain how you acquired the citizenship? Were you a derivative beneficiary ? Who petitioned who ?

Since you are a minor, you probaly received your citizenship through operation by law when your parents naturlized (Child Citizenship Act of 2000)?

Most countries let you retain your citizenship if it was done this way. For instance, German law states if you you by APPLICATION (by filing and approving N-400 in the US) aquired a different citizenship, you automatically loose German citizenship. This does not however apply to people who received their dual citizenship through birth or operation by law ("Derivative Citizenship").

We had a similar experience with our daughter. You can read about it here:

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...
