Any state that has Malaysia-like climate?

Hi,

I am new to the forum.

I am originally from Penang, Malaysia, and I moved to Chicago to be with my wife a few years ago. It seems like I was getting sick every winter because it's just too cold for me.

So I have an opportunity to telecommute to work, so technically, I can work anywhere in the world.

Is there any states that mas Malaysia-like weather and climate? How is Texas, Florida, Georgia? Does anybody (Malaysian or non-Malaysian) have any advice for me?

Chicago is in the area considered the coldest in the nation, besides Alaska. The midwest typically has below freezing weather a good 3-4 months out of the year, when the snow never melts and piles up. These are the states of Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, the Dakotas, etc.

Go further south, and east, you reach a humid area of the U.S. Florida is typically hot and humid all year round and is probably as close to equatorial weather as you will get in the U.S., although it doesn't quite get that hot. The nearby states are similar, especially during the summer.

Go west of there, starting in Texas and all the way through Arizona, it is hot and dry for most of the year, a bit chillly in the winter.

Southern California is dry too, but has mild climate all year round, as it never gets too hot or too cold. The northwest always seems to be chilly, but not as cold, temperature wise, as it is in the midwest. It does snow up there too.

Northeast, New England is cold and snowy in the winter like the midwest, and can get a bit hot during the summer, but not as bad in either extreme as what I described above for some of the other regions.

That's the best I can sum it up for you, although people will probably chime in with exceptions for what I said.

Today we are 110F and baking hot dry desert sun. No humidity, little rain or water here, so I don't think we qualify for similarities to Malaysia ;-) BUT you could choose south Texas like Houston or south Florida and be into humidity and heat.

I am thinking of moving to Dallas, but wondering how brutal is the summer? Is it a dry or humid heat? Would I feel like being grilled or steamed?
