Hello everyone!

We stumbled upon this site while browsing for ways and steps on how does a fiancé visa works. My name is Anna and i am 24 yrs of age currently. I am a US Citizen and i would like to petition my boyfriend in order for him to come here in the US. Ive read the K1 visa guide and its quite overwhelming and a lot to intake in one sitting. Im scared i might overlook something that would cost him his denial. My question is, are we gonna be having a hard time filling for these requests and would it be more convenient to just hire a lawyer to fix our k1 visa papers or is it something we can do on our own? We're new to this and we are kind of lost. Thank you in advance for the advices you'll be giving!

A lawyer is simply an expensive filter. You will provide them with the exact same info which they placed on the forms for you. Many times they slow the process because of the doubling of the effort.

There is no reason you cant do this. See the guides. Start with one form, fill it out and begin the next.

No need to hire a lawyer...just read the guidelines here in vj and the USCIS line by line...give time to prepare, I did ours exactly 15 days ...it pays to have scanner, photocopier wireless printer though ....just needs patience, determination and think this is all done for love.

Whatever you do DO NOT HIRE A LAWYER! Ours has slowed down our process by months.

Don't waste your money on a lawyer. Just go slowly and do one form at a time, triple check everything and then move on to the next form and make sure you have enough proof that you and your fiance have met face to face within the last 2 years. There have read several posts about people getting RFE for not sending proof of meeting within the 2 years. Photos do not prove that you have met within the last 2 years. So make sure that you save everything from your time spent together....you can always throw it away later

No need to hire a lawyer! Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully (every form has them). My fiance made a table of contents of the packet he submitted. It was very organized. Same thing with your fiance when he submits his docs to the consulate during the interview. Double check everything on the requirements too before you guys submit everything. That's what we both did, proofread etc. (teamwork!) You basically just have to make it easy for the guys at USCIS and consulate to review your case. It was a very smooth process for us. :)

Yup! I agree.. no need for a lawyer.. just give yourself time to carefully read the instructions and ask as you go along.. you will do just fine! good.gif

gather as many evidences as you can then organize them.. fill up the forms carefully making sure not to miss any lines blank.. write n/a or none, just don't leave blanks.. make sure all forms and supplemental pages are signed and dated.. USC birth certificate I believe should be in long form(that's what I keep reading in some posts, as for me, I have my naturalization certificate).. read the guides, they're very helpful good.gif

provide evidences or proof of having met in the last 2 years.. primary evidence: passport showing entry/exit date stamps, airline boarding pass, debit/credit/atm transactions on ur fiancé/e's county during your visit... pictures are secondary evidence only (make sure with names, date and location).. emails, chats, txt, etc are all proof of ongoing relationship but does not provide proof of having met in the last 2 years..

just ask if you get lost or confused.. that's what I did rolleyes.gif GoodLuck!
