The reason behind this post is ... Although my husband is Muslim, he still respected the Christians in Jordan by putting up a Christmas tree in his business for the season. After he came here, he doesn't care if we put one up or not. I was wondering what you all did and if you converted to Islam..did you still put up a tree for the kids? We still exchange gifts coz #1 Noors birthday is December 25th (that worked out nicely), #2 We like giving gifts, #3 It is just plain tradition. I know having the tree isn't the most important thing but it sure does help make things more festive. ... I am looking forward to hearing your input on this matter.

No tree this year. Last year I borrowed a fake one from a friend who wasn't using it. When you don't have a truck or someone to help you take it up and down off the roof of the car and get it in and out of the house, it's a bit of a pain.

When my fiance (husband) is here we might have one. I know he wants to see what Christmas is like here. But that won't be til next year or the year after.

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

we had a tree up last year when my husband got here and he was ok with it. this year when I brought up the tree he said..."we have too much time from now to christmas so we can wait" ... I just like the festive feeling and the fun it is to have the house all decorated... I was a bit stunned that he was so quick to blow it off... I am hoping to get itup this weekend enshallah

Oh I don't think you should take it that way at all. Back home they don't put up trees until 15th or so and even that is considered early. :star:

wow..that is late! growing up, we always put the tree up thanksgiving weekend...coz u only have 1 month to enjoy the tree before it is time to put it away again. Same goes for the christmas music. Speaking of that..I'm finding that I feel a bit uncomfortable listening to the traditional Christmas music now...I have always loved Christmas music but its strange now to be singing o come all ye faithful , what child is this, and my all time favorite o holy night...... anyone else dealt with this dilema???

You know, my fiance was surprised when I told him people start celebrating Christmas and the "season" over a month before the actual day. I guess where he is it's just a couple of days? It definitely seems more sensible to only take a couple of days, but where's the fun in that? :P

I mean, what would people do if they couldn't overindulge every sense they had for over a month? Why not overeat, drink too much and put yourself in debt?

Um... wow, where did that come from?:blush:

I think like JP said it's just different from what he knows. I'm sure he would be happy to help with the tree if you just explain that it's done much earlier here too. We always put ours up after Thanksgiving too I love the smell and it makes the house look great!

yeah there is nothing like that fresh tree smell *breathes in and slowly exhales* I can't wait to start baking christmas cookies tooo!
