Passport Issues after Interview.

My Interview appointment letter came through today! This is of course amazing news and I couldn't be happier.

My question however is how long do the US embassy hold your passport after your interview is successful? If at all?

I actually need mine back straight away because I have to travel a couple of days after my interview date.

Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Not sure for the UK how long it takes to get your passport back. If there is any doubt, and you aboslutely have to travel so close after the interview; I would reschedule your interview. Never leave it up to the Embassy or USCIS to come thru when time is critical. I would reschedule the interview unless you can reschedule the trip. One or the other is my recommendation.

It seems to take them about a week to get the passport back to people, but it goes via courier and you know how these things can be. I think there is an option where if you're due to travel, you can take your passport away with you then courier back to them, but you should contact the embassy to check with that.

Consider what the more important aspect to you is and move your plans accordingly.

Lost at Sea is correct. Tell them you can't leave your passport. When you return, you call the DX Secure courier and arrange for them to collect your passport from you. It's around 25 quid for them to pick it up, deliver to the embassy, then back to you after you visa is issued.

My interview actually falls right in the middle of a job I have in Italy so I think I will have to reschedule my interview date.

Any ideas on how far back they allow you to push it?? I might need to push it back 1 month.

Make an appointment at a UK passport office and get a second passport.

They will let you push it back. A month+ could be the best available anyway when you reschedule. Two dates to keep in mind--

1) The date in your letter of instruction from London and the second paragraph information

"The K1/3 petition is valid for four months from the date of action (priority date at the bottom of this letter)....." continue reading for the instruction on how to revalidate.

2). The date of your medical exam. Your visa will be issued for six months beyond the medical date, not the interview date. So if you had a medical in April, you must enter the US by October. Plan accordingly.

My priority date is the 11th June. The date on the interview letter is 4th June. I spoke to the guys on that expensive info line and they told me that as long as they issue you with an interview date within your priority date you should be ok.He said I may have to get my fiancee to write another letter of intent to marry and date it accordingly. My medical was at the beginning of May so i'm ok with that situation.

Right. That's what I wanted you to read in the letter. If you push the interview date past June 11, it will require a notarized letter of intent, as per the letter of instruction (formerly known as Packet 3).
