The immigration reform bill, which will be debated by the U.S. Senate in the next few days, may contain plenty of sops for the tech industry in general. But for the Indian tech industry, it is a bitter pill.

Most of these companies are just looking for cheap resource, it is not that there is shortage of talent in US. Most of these companies just don’t want to pay for the price of the talent.
Maybe bills like this would weed out the candidates with fake resumes from the pool.

Well, that closes that loophole. It's about time.

Which loophole, you ask?

Why, the loophole where an Indian Company can 'get a presence' in the USA then

hire Indian workers , bring in on H1-B visas

and then

contract them out to other companies.

Doesn't matter WHERE in the USA the employee is placed, as they are still an employee of that Indian Company.

I think it's great!!!

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It is not just Indian company or Indian worker, H1B is open for anyone and everyone it was they were the first one to materialize the opportunity quicker.

India does have lot of IT resources same way as philip had done with nurses.

But my point was most major IT corporations be it Microsoft or Facebook or anyother, they just keeping on saying they cannot find ppl and they need foregin worker but the real prob is not shortage of the skilled resource in US, it is most of these companies do not want to pay the price for the skilled employee.

Same way was any product company has done created shops all over the world to produce good for cheaper, its not that they do not have talent in US to produce those products but they just want to keep on increasing their margin.

apologies - 90 percent of the H1-Bs last period were awarded to 10 Indian companies with presence in the USA.

Not any 'USA' companies, at all.

coz they applied... anyone can apply for it.

They were not "awarded" they applied for it. India does have an advantage over any other country, huge population, English as the primary language for communication and availability to technology.

Same way as China has advantage in production of goods.... the things is with IT ppl are the product so they do need to be where work is and provision for that is required which is H1B.

What I dont agree with the article is the legislation might not as bad as it says but again it seems the article is written for some publication in India and if reporter wants to sell her article she has to write in such a way that it would be sold to people in India.

I don't feel bad at all about the Immigration reform bill causing trouble for Indian tech industry.

It's time that preferences be given to US local IT talents, rather than foreigners with dubious degrees at cheap costs.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

Thats exactly what I posted in my post #3 but than the thread went on tangent about 90% H1 were granted to Indians.

Not sure I'd necessarily call that English.

You can have your opinion.
