Hi everyone!

I have been married to my US Citizen husband for 3 years. Everything is great with his family and we entered this marriage in good faith. We've been having problems this past few months. We haven't been getting along lately coz he's drinking is getting out of hand again and spending too much money on stuff that isn't important. So we had a talk that it would be the best thing if we just get divorced. It's just we're dragging each other down and we're both not happy anymore. He said he'll wait and help me til I get my permanent green card and we're both cool with each other now and just wish each other best. So today I just got a letter saying my permanent green card just got approved and I will receive it soon. My question are when will I get the permanent green card and is it too soon to get a divorce?

Thank you so much and I will appreciate any infos from you guys.

God bless :)

Your first question when you get, I think in about a week (that's how I got mine), in terms of your second....yes, it is a bit too early...when it comes to dealing with USCIS later on they might going to be a bit suspicious that you were marrying based on getting a green card as you just divorced right away as soon as your green card arrived in the mail. Now this does not mean they will give you issues, but I'm saying they might later on when you're going to deal with USCIS again...this is just my personal opinion some might give you better advice maybe from their own experience...

Well as you've been approved for the 10 year greencard (which is what I assume you mean given you've been married for 3 years) then your marriage now becomes irrelevant. Based on the evidence you provided they decided your relationship was legit.

Personally I don't see the need to file for divorce asap. You could file for separation, you could move out, and just give it a couple of months and then file for divorce later. But if you're dead-set on getting divorced asap then do it, it shouldn't affect your status.
