If you are approved they will take your AP and EAD from you.... I would take proof of your travel arrangements and they should give you the stamp as long as you have proof....

Your AP is no longer valid after approval...

So all district offices have the capability of stamping? I wasn't sure if they had their stamps taken away or something (BAD D.O.! No stamp for you!)

they have the ability to stamp a passport...but they seem to have become very hesitant to give them out.

when we found out anthony's application was approved, we were actually AT an infopass appointment. they kept reassuring us that his welcome letter was on its way, and that he'd have the greencard within a coupe of weeks. we basically refused to leave the office until we got that stamp in his passport...and still, the officer was very reluctant to stamp it, and wrote in huge letters across the top "THIRTY DAYS VALIDITY ONLY".

fortunately, the greencard did arrive exactly one week after approval...but he never did receive his welcome letter or anything other than an email telling him that he was approved and the card was ordered. to make up for it, though....we received about 10-12 emails over the course of three or four days.

When I had my interview, and wasn't approved then and there, the officer told me to use my AP until I recieved my Approval letter, and my approval letter until I received my PR card. He said if I wanted to make the trip back to Oklahoma City, I could make the INFOPASS appointment to come in and get the stamp.

The stamps were used in the past in lieu of the card, because it used to take months, even a year to actually get the card. Now, since (theoretically) you receive the card within weeks of approval, most offices deem the stamp unnecessary, I guess. Seeing as you are going to be travelling very shortly after the interview, I can't see them denying your request for a stamp.

hi dani_christine!

congratulations on the approval. i'm sure you guys definitely deserve it after the long wait. i just have a quick question based on your post that i've quoted below. when you said that his greencard arrived exactly one week after approval, did you mean after you received the email stating that a welcome letter has been mailed? i know you found out about your approval while you're at the DO for an infopass. but you did mention that he received several emails about his welcome letter but not that actual letter. the reason i'm so anxious about it is because we received an email this past friday that my husband's welcome letter has been mailed and a greencard has been ordered for him. so i'm hoping that i'd get the actual welcome letter some time soon and his greencard shortly after. any insights? thanks!
