This is really neat to read about what the Ministry of Transportation is working on and what opportunities are being presented by a partnership with European and Japanese countries.

Besides all the changes in Cairo they're going to build a rail line from Luxor to the Red Sea resorts! That's such a great idea because it's so luscious and beautiful in Upper Egypt and the commute between the two areas could be improved greatly. We'd travel several times from Hurghada where we lived to Luxor to see family. When we'd go to see the sites in Luxor I hardly ever was harassed by people selling goods. It's more easy going. Plus in Hurghada we knew several married couples like us that also had family in Upper Egypt.

A large tourist company operating in Hurghada, whose name Al-Agroudi asked not to be mentioned, recently announced that it was willing to provide funding for the line, due to the positive effect its construction would have on tourism in the region. Such a line would particularly have a significant effect on the flow of passengers going from Luxor to the Red Sea

I also thought this was interesting about building the new ports and where they'll be.

The ministry, Al-Agroudi said, plans to use billions of Egyptian pounds, recently acquired in investments, to construct new ports during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Three of these ports will be located in Upper Egypt in the cities of Qena, Asyut and Sohag, and a fourth port, known as Ithr Al-Nabi, will be constructed in Greater Cairo.
