For chloe: I would save the road trip for later (as you can certainly do trips within US even while waiting on AOS/AP), and do it using a rental car.

IMO, your best options are:

  • take a flight as quickly as possible (after landing) JFK-ATL
  • slightly later flight from LGA or EWR (only if you think that you may have significant delay for connexion--you can still land in JFK, then take ground transport to one of these others)
  • (option which will miff many VJ'ers) straight-in flight to ATL (no stop @ JFK) and you ask at the USCIS counter for the 90-day EAD (worst they can say is "no, we don't issue it"; anyway, the likelihood of having AOS partly processed for AP and "regular" EAD by 90 days from entry is minuscule)

Don't recommend travelling by bus if you go from one part of the country to the other. I didn't really enjoy it by the 3d day. Uncomfortable, too loud, dirty.... try the train, it's not expensive and way moooooore comfortable!

I've had varying experiences with riding the bus. Mostly it's not fun whatsoever, especially when the bus is crowded and even more when your near someone who's sick or something. On a posative note, I had 1 good bus ride (greyhound Denver to Phoenix) when the bus was not so full and the people were friendly and not anti social. We didnt sing songs going down the road hehe, but it's nice to chit chat every now and then.

Sure it's nice to see things but you see too much on the bus, stopping at every mom and pop 1 horse town along the way. I would definately take a plane before a bus again.

I took a bus from Flagstaff to Providence (don't ask). And on the leg from Albuquerque to Amarillo, I had the pleasure of sitting next to a fellow who called himself Payday. He had gold fangs (I guess like a grill) with diamonds inlaid into them. It was at night, and he bit me on the back as I was snoozing.

Then somewhere in the middle of the country I sat next to a pleasant looking fellow from Mexico who I figured was safe because he didn't speak English. It was about 1:30 am when the bus left the station, so I thought, "Perfect! No English, I can sleep for a while." Turns out he wanted to communicate by drawing pictures for hours. I fet like I was playing Pictionary.

I won't even get started on the El Salvadorean kid from Queens who got on in Ohio.

I took the Greyhound from Texas to Virginia so it was a long trip. It was okay but I think that it's a bit too much for children. I have a 6 year old and the plane ride from Germany to Chicago was more than she could bare. Plus, once you get off the plane you/re so sticky and just wanna shower. I dunno ... maybe if you stayed in a hotel overnight and got some rest first. I probably still wouldnt do it though. My daughter is pretty active and can't sit still for too long. If you're on a bus, that's all you can do - sit.

Hi there everyone,

Just a quickie question, to hopefully gather some info, for when I plan my trip over on the K1.

My final destination is Atlanta, but Im planning on my POE being JFK, hopefully to get the temp work authorisation.

Ive been looking at the options of travelling from New York to Atlanta, and one route is via Greyhound...

Now, I know the flight is quicker, but I was thinking that 24 hours on a bus, could be fun.

Id like to see a few states, and my 7 year old would get a chance to see some of the US.

My only experience of a greyhound journey was from NY to NJ, a good few years back,

so I was wondering if anyone here has had experience of a long greyhound trip, and what it was like.

Services, facilities, potential hassle etc...

Many Thanks,

xchloe

planes are not that expensive in the USA. unless your going 1st class and stuff. fly on Air Tran in to Atlanta. they have business class for 60.00 more

Except that it would still require swapping to EWR or LGA (from JFK).

IMO, best approach would be to enter straight-in @ Hartsfield (no other US airport, incl. JFK) and try-luck with USCIS officious about 90-day EAD (worst case--they say "no"; best case--90-day EAD will expire before the I-765 is processed post-wedding).

(of course, I tend to consider this--"if destination city has customs/imm clearing airport, go directly there"--the optimal approach anyway)
