Hi all,

Just about to head to USPS and send out our AOS packet (I-130, I-485, I-131, I-765)

Head is spinning and a little nervous, so wanted to make sure I didn't make one last easy mistake.

Can someone please confirm which address we should send the packet to if we use USPS but send it overnight?

If you are filing Form I-130 with Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, and you live in the United States:

USCIS Chicago Lockbox

For U.S. Postal Service:

USCIS
P.O. Box 805887
Chicago, IL 60680-4120

For Express mail and courier deliveries:

USCIS
FBAS
131 South Dearborn-3rd Floor
Chicago, IL 60603-5517

He said he is using USPS. USPS stands for United States Postal Service. Therefore, it is the first one.

Both addresses are correct, but if you want to make sure the application arrives the next day then use the express one.

They are capable indeed, a quick look at their website confirms this. They don't stop being USPS because of that though.

"Express Mail" is the name for a specific service from USPS, they want it sent to the second address.

Thanks for all the feedback. Didn't get it out today but will for sure tomorrow.

Seems we have some conflicting responses. All do make sense from a some angle so still not sure haha.

Yes USPS is USPS. But thats true that Express is a service offered by USPS. So actually USCIS is not as clear as they should be.

It's not like the mail will bounce back if you mistakenly send it to the street address (on the other hand, FedEx and UPS cannot ship to a P.O. Box), but they will be able to receive it faster if it goes directly there instead of sitting in the post office first, hence why they tell you to send Express Mail (note that neither FexEx nor UPS offer "Express Mail") directly there.

You are assuming that if they receive it at that street address they process it for some reason faster than if it goes to the po box (which by the way might be true, but it is just an assumption for us). If I want to send something by USPS and the instructions say "for USPS use this address", I don't know why I would do otherwise. But anyway, it is not such an important discussion, hehe.

You would do otherwise because the next instructions say "For Express Mail [a service only offered by USPS] send to:.....". If you overnight it to the physical address it gets delivered to the building where the lockbox actually is. If you send it to the P.O. Box it goes to the P.O. Box where it sits until it goes from the P.O. Box to the lockbox facility.
