Greetings,

This is a crazy question but my wife keeps asking me about. We are doing a I-130 for a parent IR-5. We have done the DS-3032 and AOS (I-864). I have been looking for when we are to do the DS 230 for her parent or do we have to? I did one for my spouse.

Yes, you will be required to submit an accomplished DS-230 application for a parent. A parent of a USC is considered their immediate relative.

I submitted a DS-230 during my stepdaughter's visa process. The DS-230 was submitted in the IV Packet during the NVC stage.

I highly recommend you reading this guide, if you haven't already. Most of the information deals with spouses of USCs. But the overall flow is the same for immediate relatives of USCs.

I hope this helps you some! Good luck with your journey! good.gif

Each parent will need his/her own DS-230.

You could have downloaded the DS-230 with the cover sheet on the website where you paid the AOS I-864 fee.

Additionally, the US Embassy will send out a package with the DS-230 forms to your inlaw. That takes a few months, so it's better to download the forms now through USCIS.

Thanks Markie,

I figured it was going to be next but I could have done it sooner too. We will get started on it now.

I hear the Pista Sa Nayon in Seattle is huge. I hope to be there next year.

You're welcome, ski!

One of the best pieces of advice I was told was to never wait for anything from NVC. They take forever mailing documentation. Rather, keep calling NVC every day. You can determine where you are in the NVC stage. The automated system will give you the latest update with your case. But that guide I posted was invaluable when we applied for my stepdaughter.

I heard of the Pista Sa Nayon is great, too! I haven't been there yet. Perhaps we will this year. :D

Yes, My wife called and waited for over 30 minutes and she was just laughing. "I could not believe it! someone actually does answer!"

in short we are getting the DS 230 it to the ma in law and she will enclose, sign, etc., and ship quick back to the NVC. I will include a personal cover letter, last receipt & last cover from the NVC. If you hear the "Fililipino American Association of the Inland Empire" is there (maybe next year) then say hi!
