Texas DL while pending AOS

Hey VJer's. I've been living and driving with my Canadian DL in Texas now since I moved down here in August 2012. I got my EAD in December 2012 and didn't bother getting a Texas DL figuring I would just wait for the Green Card to show up before acquiring one. My husband needed to renew his license today so I figured I would go ahead and get one too fully knowing that it would expire in December along with my EAD. We went through all the steps including needing two documents with my residential address with my name included. As she was finishing up, it wouldn't go all the way through on their computerized system. It was saying "pending" and she handed me a peice of paper about the SAVE system and how they were going to have to manually check my status. I'm angry as I know I've been added to the system because I went through the whole manual check while trying to recieve my SSN. Has anyone else had a problem getting their DL using their EAD in Texas? I've been reading here that people in other states haven't had a problem.

Thanks.

I should make note that my AOS NOA 1 receipt date is October 19, 2012. So, 8 months now waiting for word on my GC. I'm pretty disappointed with USCIS right now.

Maybe there is a glitch in the SAVE system with your name, birthdate, or A-number so manual verifies continues for you. It might happen again with the greencard or even naturalization certificate, where any status updates don't quite make it to a verifiable record.

Perhaps. It's so frustrating. I've been living in the USA for 11 months now. I guess I won't physically exist down here until the Green Card shows up!

No way! It happened to me today. I received my EAD the beginning of June and wanted to get my Texas DL ( I have a Canadian one, and I think it is only good for 3 months after I move here) Anyway, they took my IDs..SSN, Canadian DL and EAD. No problem with SSN and DL until they tried to verified my EAD...it says pending! So I could not get my DL today after 1 hour of waiting!!! The guy told me they have to send my information to Austin to verify and I should get a mail from them for about a week. Only with that letter I would be able to get my DL. Plus, the SSN lady said she need to see original Marriage certificate but a photocopy to get my name changed this morning...So double the frustration...

So what's up with my EAD? why is it showing pending?!! It would be a nightmare that I would be able to get my DL only after I get my GC...:-(

Jan,2008 we met each other for the first time
March 11,2010, I flew to Dallas to visit him. We started dating.
September, 2011, we made the most stupid mistake we could have, sending out packet I-129 application without putting in a single page of supporting document.
January 12,2012, we received our declined petition letter after 5 months :-(
January 20, 2012, I flew to Dallas to prepare the packet and sent out the fiance petition
January 23, 2012, we received our noa1
May 30,2012, we received our noa2
June 13,2012, Our case was forwarded to Montreal
July 4,2012, I received RFE
July 5, 2012, I sent out RFE
July 9,2012, Montreal received my RFE
July 16,2012, I sent out my Packet 3 (I did not call Montreal to confirm if they have sent out my Packet 3)
July 25,2012, I received my Packet 4 in email
September 4,2012 at 9:10 am, visa approved !!!
September 6,2012, Visa in hand
November 17,2012, POE in Chicago
February 09,2013, Wedding

March 16,2013, AOS package sent out

March 22,2013,NOA received.

January 31, 2014, Card production

I think the EAD status has to be manually entered into the database. So who does that, not sure. If it's the adjudicator, then did he forget? If it's after the issue, like maybe the day the card goes in the mail, is there a backlog with the data entry? Then maybe a batch upload to non-USCIS users of SAVE? I know our last trip to DPS to present my husband's naturalization certificate, we were told a wait of 10 working days or two weeks is suggested for the database to be updated after a status change. First time we had ever come across that nugget of knowledge. But it kinda made sense. It had been 9 total days, but thankfully his citizenship was found in SAVE. Maybe you went a little too soon and have to wait on the manual verify.

Since the earlier part of this thread, I ran across info on the SAVE system and PMed the link to Stacy (OP). It had a place to check SAVE for your records. Here is the starting web page about it. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=1721c2ec0c7c8110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=1721c2ec0c7c8110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD

But she tried it and it wants a "number" which I think from reading a bit more must be a reference number that is generated when DPS or SSA fail to find you. And to use the new look-up tool, you would have to have received that number from DPS or Social Security ---the place where you were denied for a "benefit" like driving or SSN. It has nothing to do with your USCIS case file numbers.
