Made it to page 4 before the GZ/TM thing was brought up. That has to be a record around here.

Sadly enough, it's relevant to the topic posted since GZ's perception of TM was that he was up to no good based on TM walking home in the rain, with a hoodie on, looking about while talking on the cell phone.

this link does not seperate hispanics from whites, which obfuscates the matter:

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2010/crime-in-the-u.s.-2010/tables/10shrtbl03.xls

this link does seperate hispanics from whites, which makes the issue painfully clear:

A: Hispanics can be of any race, as I have stated on more occasions that I care to count. So your claim that FBI stats show your "statistics" are correct is unsupported by this report.

B: Not an FBI report, and covers only California.

The problem with that "fear" is that in some cases it gets someone hurt or killed based on a percieved notion that they are a "threat". As you stated about TM and GZ, that is what "fear" gets you, we may never know what went down after the initial confrontation, but we do know that TM was walking home minding his own business before being followed by GZ saying he looked suspisious.

Also, take a look at how the police react to certain situations dealing with minorities and non-minorities. Earlier this year, there was a brawl with a few white folks, it was a mess, bones were broken and just chaos everywhere. Look at how it was handled: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/10/kun-and-clair-families-br_n_1661991.html

Now, take a look at this: http://www.theroot.com/buzz/how-i-knew-dehumanizing-stare-belonged-black-kid

There are plenty more where that came from.

I'm just saying I understand the behavior, I'm not saying it's a good thing. I would always teach kids that the behavior was ignorant, nothing more. Yet I know it is hard to swallow.

Would I rather not have to deal with it, of course. As a minority it becomes second nature, even in the USMC there was racism; although you could count on those same people to save your life. Which made it inherently different than in the real world.

As far as race is concerned I've been encouraged with the direction we've went since the 60's, but it's nothing remotely resembling equal or tolerant. Maybe tolerated at best. I can also safely say the darker you are, the more you are impacted by the behavior.

True.

My wife was filling out an application that asked, "Are you Hispanic?"

I told her, "Answer, 'Yes.'"

"Why? I am Filipino."

"Were the Philippines part of the Spanish Empire at one time?"

"Yes."

"Then you are Hispanic."

"Is that why everybody thinks I am Mexican and tries to speak Spanish to me?"

"Yes."

There is no riddle here. If I said you had a problem with blacks there would be. But you know just like I do, there are way too many folks that can't tell the difference.

And even though you should dress and act accordingly at all times, how many white people leave the house in hoodies and flip flops, yet are they judged the same? The color of one's skin can disable or enable a perceived notion. If you're white and commit some horrible crime, you're crazy. If you are a minority, we're born that way.

did not say you did that was a self check.

I don't think blacks are born that way. I think 300 or so years of racism followed by 50 years of generational government war on the black family has lead to it. I think w went straight from one extreme to the other.

Dude that is pure Genuis. I am going to sue that in the1% chance my Pinay wife ever starts working.. The other night in the Mexican rest the waitress started speaking Spanish to the members of my Pinay Mafia.

That happens to me wife all the time and she is Thai.

My wife gets asked all the time is she a Pinay, or someone just walks up and starts talking Tagalog.

Because a car's purpose it for transportation. A gun is a weapon first and formeost. When folks start driving into movie theatres and killing 19 folks, or running through elementary schools, you might be on to something.

Please - I ask that those who want to post in this thread stay on topic and that topic specifically has to do with a judge making the claim that criminal behavior is innate among blacks and hispanics. If you agree with that preposition, then state your reasons, or if you refute it, state why.

Being in two different services, Army then Navy, I can say that it's there but you are right, there is a common thread bonding everyone together regardless of who they were when the chips were down.

And as a society we have made leaps and bounds in terms of equality, but I hate having to be tolerated, since I'm as American as anyone else here. And being of a darker shade, I can tell you, I feel it anytime I go somewhere with my wife and we are the only minorities in the immediate area.

For the Memorial Day weekend, Chelsea and Manchester City played here in St. Louis for the first time. They converted the baseball stadium into a soccer field. Sold out game, 45,500 tickets in 20 minutes. Grace of God I got her seats since she loves Chelsea. After the game, we were leaving and caught in a group of folks trying to leave. There was this one guy, loud and drunk just talking crazy since Man City won. I expected that since soccer is a pretty passionate game. Out of all the folks trying to leave, this dude looks starts trying to heckle me because he say she had a Chelsea shirt on. Yelling at me about I must be mad since they lost and they suck. I just nodded and kept walking, he got louder and kept talking to me, my wife grabbed my hand and said don't say a word. She said when we got in the car, you're the only black person here, if you got into it, chances are they would have beaten you to death.

That totally $ucks, but it's the alcohol that brings out the worst in some people.

Some ignorant American's have an image of what a "real American" should look like. Once we all get mixed into a shade of brown in about 100 or so years they'll have a harder time determining that. My hope is that those ideas and beliefs just die out, because they serve no good purpose.

I lived in Alabama in 1973-75 starting when I was 10 year old...I'll just say that I got a full dose of racial intolerance by some. But many many Caucasian and African American people showed me over and over that their are good people in this world. I live by the idea that people are good, that is until they prove otherwise. If I didn't live by those good experiences I'm just being intolerant myself. ;)
