Entering the US while waiting for Passport

I have my interview for my DV in late July.

I am a dual citizen - what are the legalities around wanting to enter the United States on my second citizenship? Will this penalise my application or future residency? Is this illegal?

Also - what are the time frames between waiting for the passport to be issued.

Some background - it is a DV2013 application - I am a 'winner' through my Australian application - and I have Italian citizenship and passports for both countries.

Any help would be great : )

I'm not sure I understand your question, are you saying you want to enter the US using the passport of the country other than the one you chose for chargeability, or that you want to enter on a second passport while the first is with the US embassy being processed?

Apologies SusieQQQ - it was late and I probably wasn't very clear, but I was more thinking the second scenario you outlined.

1. Montreal Consulate keep my passport for unspecified time to provide my passport with the visa.

2. During that time, if I want to visit the United States, can I do so freely on a second passport - are the legalities or implications on my status or DV ?

Hmm, I don't know the legalities but it doesn't sound like something they'd look kindly on if they found out... I think your best bet would be to call the consulate and ask them. Unless you go under administrative processing it's unlikely they'd have your passport for more than a few days anyway, from what I understand.
