Hi everyone...Good news! my husband's interview was just scheduled for the embassy in Paris (although he's in Portugal which doesn't make sense...) for July 9, but the thing is this: we're all going to be on vacation that week in southern portugal...we already have reservations/flights booked, the whole 9 yards. I knew this would happen too! What is your experience with rescheduling the interview? Is that asking for added months to this already lengthy process? or is it pretty easy to do? Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Why was he scheduled for the embassy in Paris? Did he at any point ever live there? Does his NVC case number reflect that?

Changing interview and the time it takes is embassy specific.

Did you alert NVC when you received case# that it was incorrect?

To change interview you have to wait for your case to get to embassy than notify them you need to change the date out.

Since your case is still at NVC why don't you try talking to a supervisor about change in embassy.

Immigrant visa interview are no longer conducted at the US Embassy in Lisbon and they are not conducted at the Consulate in Ponta Delgada. Benficiaries who live in Portugal must now go to Paris for the interview.

Thanks for the advice....He's never ever lived in Paris so it's a bummer he has to go to France for the interview ($$$$$), but at this point, oh well. We just don't want this to turn into a "well, our next available date for an interview is October 2013" when he could get it done on his scheduled date of July 9. ....but it's....OUR VACATION! Everything is booked! Does anyone have any experience with rescheduling an interview? can they push it back one week? that would be perfect.

One more question here and THIS one worries me: As directed by the NVC and all instructions for the DS230 form, we sent copies of original civil documents to the NVC with the understanding that they would send them to the Paris embassy...this is what we were told...because we were confused at how we had to BOTH send them to the NVC AND bring them with to the interview. These documents are required for the interview, but, as instructed by EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT on the website and in all directions, it said to send originals to the NVC....So now, he doesn't have them to take with him...and here is what the letter says for the interview :

Please note that even though the applicant may have provided
the NVC with a copy of a document, the applicant is still required to bring the
original document to the visa interview.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo....what now?? He sent them in! we don't have original documents. The NVC has them!

It's recommended to bring original documents to the interview, just in case one has been misplaced, or they need it for some reason. Especially for things like the police record. The one that we sent to NVC was still valid when the interview rolled around, but they asked us for an updated one at the interview anyway, I guess to make sure he hadn't gotten into any trouble during that time. You still have a month - I would try to gather all the documents you can, just in case.

Also, when you reschedule the interview, you're normally just placed back in line to get one scheduled, as though your case had recently been completed. All dates for July are probably scheduled by now, so if you want a date before September, I would contact the embassy ASAP to have any hope for an August interview. You might get lucky and be able to take somebody else's place on the off chance that they cancel their late July date.
