So I've sent off my I-130 "package" to USCIS and they received it on Mar 7 2013. They haven't replied saying anything was wrong or that they need anything from me. I just called them and they pretty much confirmed all this as well. It's still in the "initial stage" where they are conducting background checks or anything of that sort but it's been nearly three months and nothing has changed. Should I be worried? It seems most people get theirs within a few months. My wife is from the Philippines and currently residing in Manila. I'm in the US, living in Las Vegas, NV. I will note that I am active duty military so I'm wondering if that's having any affect on this. I don't have anything bad on my record or anything I would think that could slow things down and my wife is in the same position as well. Neither of us have kids or were previously married. I'm not very knowledgeable on all this stuff so I apologize if this info is readily available but I'm starting to worry.

Mar 7? Well approval on the petition usually takes around 6 months. How long were you expecting it to take? You're about half way there.

Have you checked out current processing times at uscis.gov?

Hi,

I have a priority date of Feb. 20, 2013 and I'm still waiting too. My husband is in the Caribbean and I'm in Boston with our two kids. I'm growing impatient too...just waiting for the next phase so I just made an appointment for an INFOPASS at USCIS with my local office to see if I can get more information about our petition that is with NBC. I have also called USCIS but they don't tell you much. Some people on this site have been waiting even longer. Thank goodness I have a fulltime job to keep my mind occupied!

08/23/2008: Married

07/11/2012: I returned to the U.S. with our 2 children. Started working.

08/01/2012 - 01/01/2013: Talked to various lawyers; saved for lawyer filing fee - complete waste of time.

02/01/2013: Found VisaJourney

02/14/2013: Mailed paperwork to Chicago Lockbox

02/21/2013: NOA 1

06/17/2013: INFOPASS

11/19/2013: NOA 2

Huh? I mean the NOA2. I know the whole process to finally get it done can be up to a year. I've only gotten my first notice (NOA1). I notice a lot of people get their NOA2 within a couple months so I was just wondering what was going on.

Yeah, it takes 6 months or so to get the NOA2. Then there are the NVC and the interview steps. You are halfway to getting a NOA2. NOA2 is the petition approval, not the visa approval.

I also got approved pretty quickly, but that is not the norm

Hi, are you an airman stationed at Nellis AFB? If so, that was my last duty assignment. You have a shot at an expedite depending on your AEF bucket. If you're about to approach your deployment vulnerability window, type up a letter on Air Force letter head stating that you need an expedite. Have your UDM or commander sign off on it then call the USCIS military line. Explain to the customer service rep that you're in the military and you're approaching your deployment window. They will put in a service request and fax your letter to the number that USCIS gives to you. This method worked for someone else on visa journey. I justified my expedite due to medical reasons since I'm not in my deployment window. Good luck!

Well I just got back from my deployment in November of last year. I'm due to separate in November of this year so I'm not sure if that will have any effect. Can you expedite this any other way? I don't have any medical issues, but just wondering if there's something else the military can do to expedite it. Thanks for the info.

It will have some effect on the affidavit of support so I can see why you want this to go faster vs slower. They've gotten very strict on expedites, especially those due to deployment.

Line up someone to joint sponsor if you are out before you can submit the AOS. You may want to do so anyhow because you do not know how long it will take to find employment after you separate. My husband left Guam Nov 2011 and did not get employment until Sept 2012. Thankfully he was VERY good at saving money so was able to support himself and still manage to buy tickets so we could visit, but funds were quite thin by the time he was working.
