I don't know why this topic exists. unsure.png You might as well have asked what a genuine taco is.

You're just saying that because you haven't had your oath ceremony yet rofl.gif

I've said that because I love tacos and I dislike Mexican restaurants in the US that claim they're authentic when in fact, they have Tex-Mex items on the menu such as fajitas. dead.gif

Fajitas aren't real Mexican food? huh2.gifshocked.gif

I haven't cared much for the real Mexican food when I've been to Mexico. I'm not even a big fan of Tex-Mex either, so I guess its no surprise. But I love a good USA homemade taco. The best taco I ever had at a restaurant, believe it or not, was at the Mall of Asia rofl.gif

There's nothing wrong with Tex-Mex - however - you live on the west coast - so why aren't you chasing 'Baja Cuisine' ? The cooks only travelled a few hundred miles to get to you - you should seek out the 'Baja-Cuisine' instead.

IMO, Tex-Mex is mostly done wrong, outside of Texas. Yup, that's based on a lot of empirical data, as well.

Fajitas are not originally from Mexico. I don't know much about it but I love Mexican food. I've only been to Puerto Vallarta once in 2010. If things get better, I'd like to have a culinary tour in Mexico and India. happy.png Right now traveling to those countries seems like a not smart idea.

Have you tried eating embutido in the Philippines? How about the real lechon paksiw? Some people make lechon paksiw using fresh pork but IMO, it's better when you use leftover meat from a day old or a few days old lechon baboy. Okay, it's 9:30 am in CA and all I think of is food.

Technically, no. Created in Texas, not Mexico.

Let's not get foodie, here, though, ok ? That'd be a massive thread drift, and I get the feeling (however malformed) that the OP doesna want much thread drift in this here topic.

I won't go to Baja California but when my husband and I lived in San Gabriel Valley, we enjoyed the best Baja tacos, xiao long bao and Taiwanese niu rou mien. I also had my first taste of roasted duck there. Roasted duck is so good when you wrap it in Chinese pancakes with sliced onions, sliced cucumber, and homemade Hoisin sauce.

A genuine American's family didn't arrive by boat or plane. :)

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

That resembles part of me. The discussion is still open about the original Native Americans having walked over or took a boat over. Some theories go both ways. Wouldn't surprise me if they got here both ways though.

Here's a question, are Texans real Americans? Or just kind of Americans because they were once kind of their own country?

I'm avoiding the food talk now rofl.gif

How about people who first lived in these lands before the words America, United States, or American even existed? Were they not Americans? See, that's the reason why this topic does not make any sense. It's better to talk about food. We agree and disagree about food but we all love it.

Some blanket statements (excuse the double negative):

You are not a genuine American if you...

- don't know at least three uses of mesquite.

- don't eat steak and mashed potatoes.

- don't know what we cook and eat on Thanksgiving Day.

- don't eat roasted turkey on Thanksgiving Day.

Are any of those true?

You are confused. There are THOUSANDS of taco places with baja cooks and owners in the state where you live. I never said you are to go to Baja - I am talking of Mexican Baja Cuisine -- which is PERVASIVE in California and ssooooooooooooooo much better than that crappy tex-mex yer b|tching about.

How to know? ask the cook where he or she is from. it's just that easy.

-----I'm giving up on this topic and gonna talk more about taco trucks. Bite Me..

Once when my SIL and brother were visiting from Canada we took them to a Mexican restaurant. Later I overheard my SIL talking to my mom on the phone and she was complaining that they used real steak meat on the taco and not ground beef wacko.png
