My case status has been updated and states hay my i-130 has been shipped to the NVC today. Now when should I expect a case number from NVC? I was going to start calling in a few days. Also, is fingerprinting needed for a cr-1 visa? I have seen different things about this and just want to be sure. I have no idea about how to schedule an appointment for this or when we do. Thanks for all replies!

I don't know about Panama but yes I was fingerprinted electronically in Montreal. I assume they use the same sort of process worldwide. They do it at the embassy/consulate.

It can take a few weeks to get a case number but you can call daily or every other day until you find out.

The one thing he will need, which may require fingerprints, is a police clearance certificate. He should get on that ASAP. Some countries (India for example) require the checklist from the NVC to do the PCC but others you just go to the local law enforcement and order one.

Thank you. Actually, I'm the he :). My wife is in panama, and she has already got her Police certs. So the fingerprinting happens at the embassy the day of the interview? She doesn't need to make an appointment? The Panamanian embassy is not helpful at all. I asked these questions and they they said don't prepare for anything until after the NVC says so :/.THANKS
