This was my first time going out on "black friday". I went to Best Buy to try to get the Westinghouse 32" flat screen TV for $480. I got there at 5AM. I could not believe my eyes! There were at least 5000 people waiting to get in! The local news was there, people handing out coffee and doughnuts, people in sleeping bags ext.. It was nuts!

The TV I wanted was all gone by the time I got in. I did get the Westinghouse 27" LCD HDTV

LTV-27w7 HD for the same price of $480. Nice TV! I also got a DVD player and some movies. I spent my a$$ off!

The moral of the story...a bargain is in the eye of the beholder.

I always thought that a bargain is something one doesn't need at a price one cannot resist. :P

True...and the American consumer is famous for buying something they don't need with money they don't have. It just makes them feel better when it is a "bargain".

I always found it an oxymoron that corporate America is always telling the consumer how much they save by buying something when you can really save even more by buying nothing. ;)

ain't that the truth.

Hubster and I went to Best Buy at 4:45am, joined the line of 500 people outside, and made it in by 5:05am (which was amazing in our books).

We headed straight to the TV section and got the 32' Westinghouse LCD TV for $480. Then we went to the car audio section where he picked up an Insignia CD/CD-R/CD-RW/MP3 car stereo + speakers combo for me for $50 as an early Christmas present. And that was all. We spent less than 30 mins getting what we planned to get, but waited 1½ hours in line to pay for the car stereo and speakers. It was our first time going that early to a Black Friday event, but we had a lot of fun. And it was great to run into quite a few people who were also in good spirits.

After a hearty McDonald's breakfast, we passed out on the couch till 11am.

We didn't leave our house till about 1 in the afternoon. Still though we got several DVD's at Circuit City for 4 bucks each. Completed some collections that had holes in them. And a 1GB thumb drive for $4 - after I send in the rebate which is a pain but - it's worth it.

I tried to get up at 4:30 but it just didn't happen. I heard there were traffic snarls all over the place.

Did you know that the average Best Buy store does 1 million-yes I said MILLION- dollars on the Day after Thanksgiving?

I went to Sam's and got groceries of our favorites-coffee, bananas, crackers and wine. The only non-food item I bought were a package of tshirts for 9.99, so I guess that is what I spent :P

I have one Panasonic 20" TV that I bought 5 years ago at Costco for about $200 and the picture is crisp and clear. Although these flat screen TV's look sleek, they just don't have the crispness of a regular TV. My brother has a Sony flatscreen and the image quality was really weak. I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

What deals? Well, I got a pair of boots for $69.99 that were originally priced at $125, and I'm going to see about picking up a 1GB XD picture card for my digital camera at the price of $19.99. I can't imagine how many photos I could take with that! :D

about 400 pics at the best quality... and about 70 minutes of video at best quality.... we paid about 100 bucks for ours :o

i got a 1GB SD memory card yesterday at Radio Shack for the ridiculously low price of $12.99. I also got a ton of other stuff yesterday, for some really good bargains, but as most of them were for my husband, mum's the word! my luck, he'd be sneaky enough to find this post on VJ and know everything i got him for christmas!

oh, and by the way...

my mom and i go out every year at 6:00am. this year, the crowds were practically non-existant! it was really strange...we didn't even have to wait in line once!

our best guess is that the entire city was sleeping late, because the Chiefs played slaughtered the Broncos on Thanksgiving night, and the game wasn't over until about 10:30 pm. of course, we were AT the game thursday, and didn't get to bed until after midnight, and we still managed to drag our sorry butts out of bed!

We went to walmart last night to buy a christmas tree and some decorations. I thought it might be hectic there all day, but it was pretty quiet when we went at around 7:30pm. I was relieved at the lack of a crowd. I guess the early shoppers were probably resting at home after getting up so early!
