HI Fellow VJers. My fiancee Silmara was approved this morning for a K-1 visa at the US consulate in Rio de Janeiro. I am in a state of happy shock. The last 2 weeks have been very busy and stressful because we only received notice of the interview date 15 days ago. My fiancee had to get a medical exam and the results within this time plus make reservations to travel (air/hotel) from SP to Rio. Not to mention the 2 Atestado de Antecedentes documents that were supposedly available online but in reality she had to go to the Federal Police station twice to get one of them. All of this while working 10 hour days. Yikes!! Anyway it was worth it. My advice is to make an appointment for a medical exam as soon as you receive word that the NVC has sent your petition to the consulate in Rio so as not to experience the stress levels that we did with such short notice. By some miracle (actually many mini miracles and generous friends) it all worked out. We will post a review in the Embassy section when she returns to SP. Best wishes to ALL. dancin5hr.gif

Yes, but you need your case number. You can get this from the NVC once it receives your petition (you can call them-look for the number here on VJ). It is also on the notice you receive from the NVC stating that it has received your I-129F petition and is sending it to Rio. I recommend getting your Atestados de Antecedentes and all other paperwork done ASAP. Good luck luv.gif

Congratulations!! Yes, my fiancée also found out that the information is incorrect saying that all police reports can be obtained online. She had to travel by bus to a distant city to begin the federal report, and after so many days, will return to retrieve them. Her appointment is July 2nd, and she has been trying to schedule an appointment for the last 2 or 3 weeks. They WON'T give her one, they say to call back closer to the time. There also seems to be something going on at that medical center, near the embassy. Something about they were charging too much for a vaccination and got in trouble by the embassy. My fiancé called another medical center, and is trying to schedule an appointment there, because she needs to have a set appointment in order to schedule a plane flight. My fiancée was already stressed before this "headache".

I'm looking forward to the review of the interview. If you have any other tips, send them on...

Thanks!

Thanks! Is your fiancee in Rio? My fiancee lives in SP and on the day we got the notice of the interview she called the only 2 doctors listed as approved by the consulate in SP. One didn't answer the phone, the other doctor answered but they didn't have an opening! My fiancee begged over the phone for an exam and they fit her in the next day (amazing). Unfortunately the office was very unprofessional, poorly run and they overcharged her for the visit (US$150 as opposed to US$130) but at least she got the appointment. The results were supposed to be ready the following week but when she called to come and pick them up the attendant didn't know anything about it and refused to check (recommending that my fiancee call the lab to find out when the results would be delivered!). Two days later Silmara went to the office and waited for 3 hours to get the results. It was a nightmare.

The interview at the consulate went very smoothly. Hang in there and try to get everything done as soon as you can. Good Luck on your interview!

No, she doesn't live in Rio de Janeiro. She lives in Guarapari, ES. Yes, both of the secretaries seemed rude, and one even seemed to yell on the phone. (secretaries at the medical centers) The one near the embassy seems to be bipolar, she is very nice one phone call, and then seems angry the next. Maybe my fiancée is not be persistent enough. I wish that your fiancée could talk to mine, to get the full scoop.

Thanks again.

I've lived in 4 towns... do i need 1 "atestado" from each city? Although, I've been in the same town after I turned 18, except the years I was studying in the US.

If I go to Policia Federal they can track my record right? Or do i have to go to each one of this four places?

It will depend on how old you are now, after you turned 18. It is for the last 5 years. The Federal report will cover all of Brazil territories, but if you lived in different states for more than 6 months, you will need a Instituto de Identificação from each.

Nothing is required from your stay in USA.

I left my home home state when I was 14, do I still need a Instituto de Identificação from my home state, and my actual state?

I'm now 24, and I've lived for 10 years besises the 2 and half years in the US.

Thanks for your help!

and those have to be original?
