BREAKING: Anti Gun Colorado State Senator to be Recalled After 16k Signatures Received

June 3 2013
from → Blog

There has been an ongoing effort in the state of Colorado to recall State Senate President John Morse. Morse backed the numerous gun control bills that were passed in Colorado earlier this year. He also backed several EXTREMELY restrictive bills that even his fellow Democratic lawmakers refused to get behind.

Now Morse is facing the wrath of pro gun advocates in his constituency. Today, over 16,000 signatures were delivered to recall Morse and force him to defend his senate seat in a special election. That number was more than double the number needed, so even if most of the signature aren’t able to be verified, the recall will still happen.

Gun rights advocates have long been far more involved in the political process than anti gun advocates. Poll numbers might show one side of the story, but as far as putting boots on the ground, getting people to write checks and actually taking action the pro gun side consistently outperforms the anti gun side. This is just another example.

According to the Washington Post,

“This shot will be heard around the world,” said Bill Adaska, a retired engineer from Denver who volunteered to gather recall signatures in Morse’s Colorado Springs district. “This is the race, right here, that’s going to show Washington and Chicago that when you come after our guns, we’re going to take you out.”

Indeed. If Colorado can successfully recall and vote out their State Senate President it sends a clear issue to any politican across the nation – “Come after our guns, lose your job.”

The Washington Post also outlines the next steps for the process,

The Colorado Secretary of State has 15 business days to verify signatures. After that, Morse has a period of time to challenge signatures before a recall election is set. The latest possible date for a Morse recall vote would be early October.

No state lawmaker in Colorado history has ever faced a recall vote.

Gun-rights activists are still working to recall another Democrat, Sen. Angela Giron of Pueblo. Signatures in that effort aren’t due until next week.

Godspeed Colorado residents.

With the fervor of the pro-gunners you have to wonder if they sign petitions the way machine democrats in Chicago are suspected to vote, 'early and often'!rofl.gif They better hope it remains a special election and not done at the same time the voters are showing up to the polls for other big races. Those less motivated but more numerous gun control voters might yet defeat this recall if they are brought to the polls by other issues!

Glad to see some Americans still like their civil liberties. Now if we can get them to see that using the IRS as a Gestpo is so dangerous to our freedoms.

From the one of the sources of the OP:

Recall efforts against two other Democratic lawmakers who backed gun control have already fizzled for lack of support.

So right now the gun nuts are up one out of four efforts with two already having failed to make the ballot and one still up in the air. And they had to dole out guns and ammo to even get enough signature collectors on board for this effort. This is only half the battle anyways. Remember the recall efforts against one Scott Walker? Plenty of signatures and what happened? Yeah, right. Nothing.

we need those recall signatures here in Chicago big time :)

Recall elections, and attempts to force them, are a poor way to serve democracy. The people targeted were elected by a majority of the constituents who voted. They should serve the term for which they were elected.

so if elected official is doing something bad it is ok to let them just because they were elected sometime ago?

Then why have elections in the first place, if you're just going go through one every time your elected official does something you don't like?

alright, so lets switch to totalitarian regime then? the whole point is that at some point we can elect someone good and if he turns out to be bad we should have power to throw him out

You can, at the end of their term.

Recall elections most often have little to do with democracy and a lot to do with money. Remember that officials are elected by a majority of those who bothered to vote, and that majority will most likely have voted in favour of the policy that is the stated cause of a recall attempt. Are we to surrender democracy to the whims of a well-funded minority?

or we can wait until that official change the law that make his term indefinite. when was the last time we had 100% voters coming to vote? that number is usually much much smaller, so does it still mean that this person represent majority or only majority of those who voted for him?, how many people even after they voted for someone actually followed that person politics? do we have large referendum for each and every policy elected? most people don't care and some are easily brainwashed with biased news, do you really have time to investigate each candidate before you vote or is this decision based mostly on their propaganda they through on tv? so the only real test of elected official is what they actually do after they elected because every candidate will lie to look good and win, people memory is weak so if they know that they are safe until next reelection they can hope that by that time people will forget, I mean look at what happened in the beginning of this year they tried to use those poor families in effort to push idiotic gun laws playing emotion card and they could have succeed if it didn't take long time by which time brains kicked in
