I'm trying to get some feed back on sponsoring some of my wife's relatives. She is a permanent resident here in the U.S. with a greencard and from Indonesia. She'd like her sister and one of her cousins to visit here. I would like to sponsor them both at the same time.

So my question (s) are this:

Is that possible for me to do?

What recommendations can anyone give on how to proceed with the process?

Little extra info from my part. I have a successful career so the financial part isn't an issue. My wife and me have been married since July 2012.

Basically we are just looking for the what and what nots to do. Any advice is much appreciated.

No sponsor required for tourist visa's.

They just apply.

Your wife cannot sponsor her sister for GC because she's not a citizen. Even if she's a citizen she cannot sponsor her cousin. Neither can you. They can apply for a visitor visa or student visa or any visa that is not family-based.

@Elder Member: As I stated before, my wife is from indonesia and that is an extremely hard country for someone to get a visitor visa from (as it's considered a high risk country) to the US without sponsorship or the person applying being wealthy.

So if someone with experience on my question with family/relatives from a high risk country such as indonesia and sponsoring their visa, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Sponsors are required for immigrant visa's, you are talking about a visitor visa.

correct, a visitor visa, which from hearing stories about indonesia and visitor visas, they are hard to get without a sponsor. e.g., before my wife came here, she applied for a visitor visa and got denied because she didn't have at least 10000$ in her bank account. once we were able to apply for her fiance visa, no problem.

so i'm trying to get some imput on sponsoring someone for a visitor visa, for family and extended family.

There's no such thing as "sponsoring" for tourist visas.

The person must apply and will be approved based ON THEIR OWN MERITS.

Merits are based on their STRONG TIES TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY.

Sample of strong ties are: family (parents, husband, children), a high earning and stable job or business, properties under their name (land, house, condo, car), money savings in bank.

You cannot do anything for them to be approved. Your promises of paying for their trip and providing financial aid for their trip mean nothing to the consul.

So in otherwords you can't sponsor a family member to the U.S.? Unlike a country like the Netherlands where you can sponsor a friend or family member for a visitor visa?

If what you're saying is true, what type of visa can I sponsor a family member on? Because no matter what ties my wifes sister and cousin have to Indonesia with family or work, they can't show they have enough $$$ in their bank account for the U.S. to believe they will return.

So if I sponsor them, what visa would they apply for?

You can't sponsor them for anything.

They can apply for visitor visas. They apply on their own merits.

There is nothing you can do to get them visas of any sort.

You cannot sponsor for a tourist visa, not even from the Netherlands. The difference with European countries is that they do not need a tourist visa in the first place, they can come on the visa waiver program for 90 days.

What everyone has said is correct: they must show proof of ties to their home country, be that enrollment in university, a good job, business ownership etc. Money in the bank can help, but actually isn't a great tie by itself as it could be easily transfered to a US bank account, were the person to stay.
