3 months in Administrative Review

It has now been 3 months and 3 days since my fiance had her interview at the embassy and the case continues to be in Administrative review. When either of us write to the embassy, we get the standard 2-3 line response stating it's still undergoing the review. My fiance is divorced and is bringing her 10 year oold daughter(and son later on). My fiance is from Sri Lanka, but her ex is Indian and so are their children, so I understand there is more paperwork to review, but this delay is getting to ridiculous, considering the fact that my fiance has visited me the last 5 years and lived with me a good part of those years here in the US. I regret not having married her on her last trip here.

I have contacted the congressman's aid, but she said that she has got no response to 2 of her queries to the embassy either.

Any advise?

Thanks.

All you can do is wait. I know it's hard but the embassy is in control and they will only issue the visa when they are ready. Usually when you are in administrative review they are checking documents.

  • 2 weeks later...

AMT,

Have you heard anything as of yet? My husband is in AP two weeks now. First because they made me get a co-sponsor, although I clearly make enough, my 2012 taxes didn't reflect it because I did not work the whole year last year. So, no updates since they received all of our documents.

They are probably checking to make sure that her divorce is legitimate. It is very, very hard for people in Sri Lanka who have kids to get a divorce. The fact that she received one is amazing and she must be a really strong woman to have done this. They really try to humiliate women and make them feel bad about divorces in Sri Lanka. It is a really big taboo. Even if your husband leaves you, you don't divorce and you pretend you still have a marriage.

I would expect that soon they will talk to her neighbors about her relationship with her ex. (nosey freaking Sri Lankan neighbors) They may want to hear what kind of gossip is going around about what happened between her and her ex. Hang in there. I call every other day. This is sickening.
