Hello Everyone.

I am filling my N400 in July. And I have some questions on filling this form:

1. For Part 6.A - In instruction, it say "write every address where have you lived during five years (including in other countries)"

After I being a PR, I have visited my country twice and lived there for almost 5 months in all together and stayed overnight in one other country while in a transit to my country.

So, do I have to mention that everything in Part 6.A too???.

2. Is a day spent less than 24 hours counted as 'Time spent outside the USA'???

3. In part 10, from 37 to 39, is the answer will be 'yes' in any case? if I said 'no' what supporting document I need to submit.??

4. If I am not applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen then do I still need to send the tax return transcript, marriage certificate and so on?? According to checklist in my condition I just need N400, 2 photos and copy of PR card. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you.

1- No, you are visiting so it's not a place of residence

2- No [to the best of knowledge]

3- If you said No you are ineligible for Naturalization. However you can request a modified oath, if you are unable to bear arms on behalf of the USA, q37, however you need a valid reason for that

Review pages 8-9 of this document for more information.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/chapter5.pdf

4- You need to send documents which proof the on-going relation with your US spouse, like 3 years of joint taxes, 3 years of apartment lease [you need to take more to the interview because they might ask for more proof like joint bank account etc]

I hope that helps

Thank you myafi1985.

Regarding my question # 4, I am not applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen. Here most of the VJ members seem to be so. As I am not filing on the basis of marriage to US citizen, I am only wondering whether I need those supporting document too or not especially tax return transcript.

Thanks

If you are applying based on being a 5 year resident, you do not need to include any proof of your relationship.

Thank you.

I have one more question on my head. After I file N400 (i.e. 90 days before completing 5 yrs) am I allowed to visit outside the US until I get the naturalization??? If yes, then how is it going to affect in my residency status??

thanks.

you need to make sure you don't break your continuous residence in the USA, don't make or have any trips longer than 6 months. you need to make sure that you don't miss your Bio appointment or your interview, during the interview you need to inform the officer and he will update your form if you have any travel after filling n400. so, my advice ,stay here until you get your citizenship , and then you can travel as long as you want. I hope I answered your question
