Freaking out about my RFE

The hard copy of our RFE just arrived at my dad's house. He scanned it and sent it to me, so they'd know what they're looking for.

I knew they'd ask for "Intent to Marry." When I realized that was missing, my fiancee and I got those ready.

What I wasn't expecting was for them to ask for evidence that she and I have met in the past two years. Our initial packet included photos of us together (with the dates, locations, and names of other people in the photo written on the back), affidavits from friends and family describing our history (including the fact that we lived together for a year), and email correspondence between us. I'm not sure what else there is.

I don't think I have any plane receipts left anymore. If I dig out email confirmations of the purchases, will that be enough? Will scans of my Chinese visas work? They're work visas and don't technically prove that she and I were in the same city...

Any other things you think we might be able to include?

They want copy of passport with stamps of entry. Also plane tickets, proof of credit card purchases. If you lived together where is lease with both names on it. Proof must be between January 2011 - January 2013. Otherwise you will be denied, you do not meet the two year requirements.

Passport stamps from entering the country, lease with both names, receipts and bank/credit statements showing purchases at the time you are claiming to have been face-to-face together. Photos are secondary evidence and you should provide a few to back up the primary evidence. Any together with friends and family or in front of landmarks would be useful to use. Emails prove nothing about meeting in person. I would go ahead and include a copy of your work visa. It helps prove you were in the country, and along with the passport entry stamps could be helpful.

scan your entire passport, not just the page that has the visa. Also, if you have a credit card statement that shows the plane purchase would be supportive. Also highlight purchases/withdraws made in China to show you were there.....

and highlight the visa entry

The RFE took less than a week to arrive. Mailed on May 29th, arrived on June 3rd.

Her name was never on my lease, something that I'm regretting now. At the time, I wasn't sure if she'd be living with my full time, and I didn't want to make her liable if anything were to happen to my apartment over the course of the year.

I'm going through all my emails to try and find purchase confirmation from my various plane tickets over the years. I've used different websites and airlines over the years, just going for the cheapest deal, so it's rather hodgepodge. And I don't have any documents showing my visits to her province this year (one trip before the application, one trip after) so I'm going to the travel agency to see if they can print out records for me.

I'll scan my passport, work visa, entry/exit stamps, and work permit, but that only has info for the past year since I got a new passport recently. I'll have to ask my family if they can find my previous passport for more evidence. This is particularly complicated since I'm in China, all my evidence will be scanned and emailed to my parents in the US, and then they'll mail it out. The extra step frustrates me even more. Which reminds me: scans and copies are acceptable, right? I'll have the original "letters of intent" in China along with some of the other information. Will that be a problem?

Yes, send copies. To meet the requirement for the I-129F, you only need to prove you met at least once within the 2 years before filing.

Copies of evidence of meeting in person in fine. Copies of intent to marry are not acceptable! The intent to marry must have original signatures.

Seriously? That's... very inconvenient. The other evidence is all photocopies, why must the letter of intent be original? She'll have the original at the interview.

It is a little inconvenient. That is where express mail comes in handy though. I misread and thought you said you had original letters of intent already, so I was only speaking of the passport stamps and such being copies. The letter of intent needs an original signature.

Right. So my fiancee express mails her letter to me, I put it in an envelope with mine and express mail them to my mom in the US, who express mails it to UC-CIS. I feel like that eats up a lot of time, and makes it far more likely for something to get lost along the way.

Hopefully it won't get lost and I'd recommend to sign in blue ink, so you can tell the difference between a photocopy (which would all be in black and white) and the original signatures done in blue ink. Maybe it's silly but I think some people got RFEs because they couldn't tell if the letters of the intent to marry were photocopies or not. Of course send the originals and make a copy to keep.
