Hi all!

After arriving here on a K-1 and getting married 3 months ago, I've finally just received notification that my EAD has been accepted and is in the Card/Document Production phase. I applied for and have already got my SSN upon my arrival in the US back in February (I stated the SSN number on the I765 application), but obviously it states on it 'Valid for work only with DHS authorization'. Does this mean that once my I765 arrives, I can still use the SSN card I have now, or will I have to go to my local Social Security Office again to re-apply for a new, updated card?

Many thanks!

You can continue to use that card as the EAD and GC IS the DHS authorization. It is up to you as to whether you want to go to your local SSA office and wait in line just to get that removed when the GC arrives. My wife and I are going to go back only if she becomes a USC and notify them of her status change and that new SSC will not have that wording. How many people actually see the SSC? If you show your employer the GC you do not have to show them the SSC. Just give them the number so they can withhold payroll taxes.

Congrats on getting your EAD,

Dave

Perfect, thanks guys! So the bottom line is when EAD arrives, I'm good to start work using that my current SSN card. When GC arrives further down the line, I'll then head to SSA to remove 'Valid for work only with DHS authorization' from SSN card. Correct?

Yes. You will show them your green card as a proof that your immigration status changed, and they will issue you a new card without the note.

What is your NOA1 date?

I'm yet to receive a date for my AOS interview. I needed to provide a couple of things that I'd forgotten to send, so the process is behind by a week or so. My I-485 status is still set to'Request for Evidence Response Review'. I've had my biometrics taken and all that jazz, EAD should be arriving soon. Any idea what the current waiting time for AOS interviews are?

As a K-1, you may not get an interview and in this case the wait is pretty long. But if you have an EAD and AP, the wait should not be a big problem.

If you get an interview, it's usually pretty fast. A month or 2 after biometrics.

NOA1 is first notice of action, the one where they say that they received your applications and payment.

Please fill in your VJ timeline. :)
