What do you expect when the Democrats main campaign pledge is "more free stuff" The U.S. is starting to look like Thailand. The latest campaign slogan there is "All Thais will be rich in 6 months."

I'd love to see why the majority of these young voters went for Obama. I doubt it has much to do with his policies.

BTW: thanks for making my point RGinWA.

Um, I mentioned no "free stuff" another GOP talking point for which there is no proof, thanks for that "free stuff" proof.

I voted for Obama because the other guy was a money grubbing CEO type who see's dollars and not people. I've worked for CEO's they don't care about anyone.

If you had a better candidate I didn't see him running. It's either a religious nut, a guy who worships a firearm or a guy who knows how to make money...for himself. Neither am I confident in.

Face it, your party left few people a choice in who to vote for...blame the GOP...not free stuff.

Well you still voted for the GOP and thus blew that educated voter theory out of the water.

LOL

Nice setup...thanks.

Well you would have voted for them...thus blowing not one but two theories on voters out of the water.

at the present, i figure i have about as much in common with a 17 year old as a 51 year old. a seven year old and 61 year old not so much..

although i used a calculator. there might be holes in my ball theory.

I'm willing to bet it has a lot to do with social issues, as well as youth not feeling able to really connect with the Republican party.

Maybe it something to do with the ridiculous approach the GOP takes on issues that young people care about? Take this one, for example:

Dear Senator Rubio,

To many young conservatives like us, it seems that our politics has ridden roughshod all over our ideals. For no issue is this truer than climate change. We are counting on leaders like you to show the country that conservatives have responsible, pro-growth solutions to pressing challenges that young people care about. There is a generation of fiscally conservative Millennials who neither wish to inherit crushing debt nor an abused environment. You are one of the few conservative leaders capable of leading on this issue.

By leading on prudent climate solutions, we can defend and strengthen the free-market system that has produced so much prosperity for America and the world. We can reinvigorate the principle of personal responsibility that our communities require to thrive. And we can bolster America's energy security.

Conservatives have rightly opposed many of the climate change proposals offered by the Left. But standing against bad policy does not require hiding from good science. We can't govern responsibly by belittling America's National Academy of Sciences (and all the other science academies on the planet). We can only govern responsibly by confronting the reality that we will be forced to spend big money dealing with the effects of climate change — money that won't be invested in our communities, our schools, or our private enterprises.

It's worth reading - go on and click the link.

Same goes for just about all social issues out there. The GOP has failed to offer young people any positive perspective for tomorrow. All it has offered is putting up a bunch of angry old men saying "I got mine, GFY!" Why would any young person want to vote for them?

Felons usually vote the D ticket. That is why the Democrats were getting so upset that registrars in various areas were matching voter rolls with lists of known felons.

I agree with ending the subsidies to oil companies 100%. On the flip side they need to stop subsidizing billionaires to make $60k cars. Not approving that Keystone pipeline extension is monumentally stupid as well.

As far as the tax on emissions, it seems pointless unless China, India, and other emerging economies go along with it. We all share the same atmosphere. It's a global issue, not a national one.

As far as I got mine GFY, what exactly does that mean? People should want to pay more taxes because the government does such a great job of managing finances?

Yes it is. One way or another, everyone needs to get off the fossil fuels. Question is who will lead the future energy market? In the old days, America would have competed and invested to gain a leading position. Today, America happily ceases that future to Europe and Asia. Short sighted. Very short sighted.

Once Republicans figure that out, they stand a chance of being competitive again. Until then, not so much. Think about what those that want to cut, cut, cut were afforded when they were young. Look at what the greatest generation did for them. And then look at what the beneficiaries of all the sacrifices of the previous generation are telling the next one. That the sacrifice is on the young people, not on them. Bunch of spoiled brats those baby boomers. That's what turns young people off.
