He could have done that until - following the NRA sponsored Newtown massacre - he decided to also support more gun control in one of the already tightest controlled states. That and his BFF Obama will do him in for the Republican nomination. What I could see is Christie prepping the ground for an independent run. Here's one guy on the left flank that would actually be on board with that. I don't agree with everything Christie stands for but I like and respect Christie for not being a partisan. If there's a single prominent politician out there that can credibly talk about putting the people and the country before a party, Chris Christie is it.

ETA: May Sen. Lautenberg rest in peace.

Agreed. I could get behind politicians in either party that showed real resolve to work as a group. But then I'm a dreamer.

why in the world would Christie call a special election at a cost of millions when he could wait a few months ?

He called it in October, so that it doesn't conflict with the gubernatorial election in November.

That, and I believe NJ law dictates a special election be held.

They can't vote for Governor and Senator at the same time on the same ballot?

This explains it fairly well:

That's B.S. So they're going to hold two elections so Booker and Christie aren't on the same ballot. Who cares about people having to leave work to vote twice and the cost of two elections. These politicians should be shot.

Christie wants a legacy sized win. Booker on the ballot means the urban dem machines swing into action and he either wins small or loses.

In the end, there's no honor in losing. No one remembers the loser.

What I heard is that "NJ electoral law bars the elections being held concurrently."

I can't confirm this, as I have fat fingers and a cell phone (my laptop is being difficult), but it doesn't change the fact that Governor Chritie wants no major Democrat voter draw during the November voting cycle.

Then there's the small matter that a Senatorial election ranks higher than a gubernatorial one, meaning that his name wouldn't be in the top set on the ballot.

Sure they can but Christie doesn't want to risk it. Word on the street is that Booker will run for the Senate seat so the turn-out on the other side of the aisle is expected to be large for the Senate special election. That's not in Christie's favor even if he does poll well across the political spectrum in NJ.

Really ..do tell. Wonder why

so he just blows several million taxpayer dollars. Nice He really cares about the people.

But Christie cares. Moonbat dog liberals have been telling us for months he is the only pub who can put aside politics for the people. Christie is toast.
