Hello vj people,

Good day to all of you!I am currently here US for 3 weeks now and have gotten married last week. When I arrived here my husband moved to a different address but the same state. So we're now staying at this new address.Do I have to notify the Homeland security about it.I will be going to the Social Security office to have my name changed as I have gotten social security number the first week I arrived here.

My question is How do I go about the process of AOS?How much is the fee?Do we have to have a certain amount of savings in the bank,if so how much would that be?How long will it take us to have the interview?Do I get the green card once we got approved? Can I get a job while waiting for it to be approved since I already have my social?

Do we still need pictures, billing statements, etc.?

I will appreciate it very much any feedbacks from you. Thanks so much.

J@L

Hey there,

I do not know about the address change, but the AOS is $1070 and you are not able to work until you get your EAD as your SSN will say "Not Authorized Without DHS Approval, which means you need your EAD. Concerning what you need for the AOS, this is a really useful link: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/235331-aos-ead-ap-from-k1-the-aussie-way-doc-list-included/ . Depending on the amount of people in the household your husband will have to make a certain amount, this amount can be found on USCIS website under I-864 Poverty Guidelines(he needs to make the 125% amount). Concerning the address, did your husband move before you came down and if so, did you tell the US CBP upon entering the US. If not, I am sure someone can help you as I have not endured this situation. When your AOS gets approved then they produce the GC and you get it in the mail. It could take up to 1yr and a half to get approved. You may or may not get an interview. Other posts have said that there is no way to tell whether you will or will not get an interview. I hope this helps in your journey through immigration. Also remember with the I-485 to file I-131 (AP in case you need to return to Philippines for emergency) and I-765(EAD)

Blessings

Hey there J@L,

So here is what happens, you file I-485, I-131, I-765(EAD). Your AP and EAD will get approved most likely within 3-4 months. After you receive your EAD that is when you can start working. Sorry for any confusion.

Blessings

hi,

Thanks very much for your reply.I'm just pretty confused about the A- number, how will I know my A-number?Where do I find it?And what about this field that asks me about ("IF NOT A PERMANENT RESIDENT,MY STAY IN THE US EXPIRES ON").What date should I put?Is it the date indicated on the CBP form 1-94 which is the departure record stapled on my passport.Pls. help.

And how do I go about changing my last name with Social Security?I just got married friday, and when I get there earlier the guy told me to report my change of last name with the DHS (dept. of Homeland Security),so do I have anything that I need to show the SS guy to have my last name changed.

Thanks very much and God bless.

Your A number is in your I-94 on the back portion and it should also be on your visa printed in Red.

What we did is we just changed the US citizen's address because i will still have to apply as a Permanent Resident.

Concerning the SSN i applied for it after i got married so it was already in my married name, a lot of people here have different experiences but some of my friends said they just went back to the SSA and brought their Marriage certificate so they can have their name changed but i also had another friend where she has to wait for her GC to arrive before she can change her name to her married name. There are staff in the office that doesnt really know the rules or the process so i would suggest to talk to a supervisor or a field manager.

God bless :)

A# is on the NOA2 I-129F approval notice near the beneficiary's name.

Use the date from the I-94.

You should be able to change it with your marriage certificate, but some SSA workers have no clue. You will file all the AOS forms in your married name. When you receive the EAD/AP card in your married name, use it at the SSA to change the name on your SSN.
