Hi all,

My fiance is just finalising his I-134 forms and we have a few questions:

1) On question 2. is says "I have resided in the United States since ___". He lived in the US since birth but then moved to Switzerland for 2 years moving back at Easter this year. Does he put his birth date here or the date he moved back the last time?

2) For worth of "other personal property" do you estimate worth of things like clothes, and technology or is this for large items such as cars? I don't know if we should put down the amount that out appartment renters insurance covers or just his car.

3) For the intentions of supposrt question we're copying the "N/A because of K1" from the VJ example as we will be in the same household. I noticed his dad on our co-sponsor I-134 put "does not intend" as we are unlikely to need his help - is this right?

Thanks everyone!

Zoe

1) I would personally use the date of birth. Just an opinion.

2) Listing all his possessions? I don't think that is the intent, but I guess if he can document with an itemized list showing what he owns and the value, then try it. Does his income and your combined savings not reach 100% of the poverty guidelines without listing clothing and electronics?

3) That's kinda tricky. While I read it as saying if he going to make "specific" contributions, then say intend and make a quantifiable list. Examples would be--

Provide room and board for 6 months

Provide an automobile for his use.

Provide $250 spending money per month for 12 months or until employed.

BUT some people interpret it as "do not intend" means they are not offering to sponsor. That can't be right because they wouldnt even fill out the form if they werent going to sponsor. Most do something vague like "intend" and a statement saying provide any monetary assistance needed, as well as room and board.

On question one, I would put the date that he returned from Switzerland. Providing an incorrect answer (particularly one that could be checked against border patrol records) might possibly cause problems, but as long as he's a US citizen not a legal permanent resident, having lived abroad should not.

Well, there ya go. Two opinions. I don't really have a strong opinion either way. I could easily switch to Owen's opinion. Are they trying to figure out domicile or citizenship/residency? It's kind of an odd question.
