Well that knocks out most of Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and Eastern Europe.

Just so I understand. (I am somewhat slow) You think that most marriage based immigrants from those areas are some kind of trade off? Three years of hot young sex for citizenship? Possibly maid and child bearing duties included as well?

Yes. You bring me to America, I make you good wife/husband.

I suppose that happens. I don't think it's very prevalent though. In the time I spent in Asia, I never met one person that wanted to move to the U.S. I only met a few that even wanted to visit.

I've seen some Thai cases where the girl strings the guy along all the way up to the interview, sucking as much money as possible out of him along the way, and then bailing out right before the interview.

You have said that before, which I found interesting, but what is more telling for me, is the number of old acquaintances and family that keep asking my wife to "find me an American". My wife is not the only one, and her friends her experience the same thing. On the flip side, I get many Americans that fit the profile, that once they see my wife, take me aside and ask how they can find someone like that for themselves. There is a market out there. For the women, the same applies in other regions: A younger man could easily fall for an elderly American woman.

I wonder if they want an American simply for the financial aspect of it. What I mean is not necessarily to move to the U.S., but to be able to buy the parents a new house in the village and stuff like that. I mean what good is it to marry an American if you can't show off all the money you made out of the deal to the folks back home? I just don't see much of people simply marrying an American to come to the U.S. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Everytime I go to my wife's village her aunt is always bugging me to have a proper wedding with a big party and all that. Since her Aunt is the Poo Yai Baan (Basically the equivalent of Mayor here) she stands to make some money off of all that. Her family rarely asks me for money, even though they are poor farmers. I think they are the exception, not the rule. My wife's sister is a money hungry wench that always seems to have some angle working to try and get cash. Moving to the U.S. isn't one of them. Maybe she's not that bright.

My wife and I never had a proper wedding. In our case, they had a coup in Thailand. The new leaders changed the visa rules and I was in danger of being deported. So I told my wife (girlfriend at the time) If we don't get married so I can get a proper Thai visa, I'm going to get deported. She agreed and we went to the district office, sign this, sign that, and you are now man and wife. That got me a valid one year renewable visa to stay in Thailand. Generally you have to pay big bucks to the girl's parents to get married. Her parents said if you're happy, go for it and I didn't have to pay. Again probably the exception not the rule.

I can assure you that if Most Mexican women spoke English and Most did not balloon up to 200 lbs at age 30, there would be a lot more K-1 visas from south of the border.

Oh yes and if they liked fat old men

I agree with you, but I think the Pacific Ocean is a greater determining factor than the Rio Grande when deciding how to immigrate here as to the amount of K-1's applied for.

As they keep closing the available slots for foreign nurses, even more so. The new strategy for nurses seems to be to head for Canada instead, although the really desperate will head for places like Dubai, or worse.

so, mucking about on a form triggered this post? OK.

I suggest, next time, instead of using a web browser to fill out the form,

you download and install the latest version of FOXIT -

then

when you are 'in the web browser' one more time - do NOT open the file within the web browser -

instead, when you see the link for the file, right click, select 'save as' or 'download', and save the file to your local drive.

Then, launch windows explorer [windows key + E]

then get to the file you just downloaded, and open it with FoxIt.

Using a web browser to make an instance of Abode Acrobat is troublesome, and in my opinion, a stupid-human-trick. I refuse to use a web-browser to read or edit a PDF file - and YOU SHOULD AS WELL !!!

Huh? I thought the foreign nurse thing shut in the USA circa 2008 - no more.

Welcome to China !!!! tis very prevalent.

Pretty much, but that doesn't stop them from going to nursing schools with big dollar signs in their eyes. Now, marrying an American seems to be a required step to get into the US, or work in Canada for a while first.

yup - we read much more in the k-1 section about 'but i passed the NCLEX exam in the PI - I need to start working soon! '

I am so pissed about the concepts of OFW being translated into immigrant visas . I really hate that.

Is anyone else that is trying to get your visa so that you and the one you love can be together? Well, after making a small error on th 156 form it would not let me make any changes..so..once again..do another form over again. Then I think of all of the Mexicans that are here illegally and when they get here, they are given low income housing..food stamps..welfare money..medical, education for their kids, and any child they have born here automatically becomes a U.S. citizen When they get a cold, you will see them at the emergency room. Millions of working Americans have no medical insurance and cannot afford to go to the doctors when they are really sick!Consequently, many Americans die each year because they could not afford to go to the doctors and therefore die because their illness was not treated or diagnosed early enough to save them. Yet, we that want to bring a loved one here..well..WE have to jump through so many hoops it makes me sick! Not to mention the over priced charges they put on you for the medical..interview..129, etc. The price St. Lukes charges us for that medical exam is rhidiculous! In the Philippines you could get a hell of a lot of health care for the money they charge you for an exam. There is so much welfare fraud in this country it is incredible. The country is broke and yet these politicians hand out benefits to illeagal aliens that come here. Those of us that have worked hard and paid taxes all of our life????? We can't get anything but our balls busted by the government! They hand out these benefits to people that did not bother to go through the anguish we have to go through to get a visa approved. These people come here, cut grass, get paid under the table..pay no taxes, have never contributed anything to this country and yet they get help, when so many Americans can't get a damn thing from them when they need it. The working poor catches hell in this country!

Amen.

To the OP, I can appreciate any post that makes huge generalizations about entire countries, races and people. Like they are just one entity sucking up all your resources and not paying a dime for it. I'm sure its all true...in your mind. It sounds good, yet it's highly inaccurate.

Yes, they're all taking the food right out of your mouths and preventing you and your love from being reunited.

Since most of this country belonged to Mexico at one time, what do you think they believe about you? Maybe they are a little resentful?

If hating makes you feel good then you go for it. Hate the entire country and people for keeping you apart from your beloved.

I'm sure this country will welcome your bride with open arms...and if you believe that I've got a bridge to sell you. This country is pretty much built on hating anyone that isn't originally from here, thus the hate of the dreaded Mexican's continues.

During bad economic times its always the same story, hate those foreigners...see Germany in 1930 for a history lesson on hate.

I'm sure is a pure joy to be here illegally and worry about deportation at any moment and labor away at some $hitty job with the risk of not being paid and then face the inability to even complain about it. But you keep believing its a real dream.

I feel sorry for anyone with that attitude; how much life will you waste hating your perceived enemy?

I look at life in a more positive light, so forgive my inability to generalize so vehemently. And I hate to break it to you, but that attitude is so racist...but I'm sure that's not news.

Lets hope your loved one doesn't face like minded red blooded American's when she gets here. ;) Because that would be wrong...right?

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

I think this whole thread is revolting. The MODs are on vacation or something. The Op is understandably missing his fiancee. The rest are a bunch of foul racist/sexist comments which have no business at this site.

To the OP...

My wonderful and beautiful Alla has been here nearly 6 years and is a citizen since last year. We waited and went through everything, the visa is just the beginning.

She got a good education here, (and still is) created her own business, loves to drive her car (the self propelled closet) and generally has stopped reminding me that Ukraine is really better in every way than the USA. laughing.gif The bread still sucks here, but other than that she likes it. She even adjusted to living "in a village" as she calls any city under 1,000,000 population.

I sleep very soundly at night knowing my family is protected by having followed the law and obtaining everything legally. They are safe and can enjoy everything this country offers. You will forget all this nonsense in time.

I am not jealous of illegal aliens or whatever benefits they may receive. You are in this for the long run. Keep that in mind.

Good luck
