My husband was approved for his Conditional Permanent Resident card, and it was sent to him.

We didn't have an interview at all.

Is it normal to not have an interview? Do I have any reason to be concerned that we didn't have an interview?

Normal, 50% chances if you are adjusting from K1 not to have an interview.

[*] 15 May 2013 - Moved from MN to LA; [*] 17 May 2013 - Applied for a new SS card/filed an AR-11 online (unsuccessfully), therefore called and spoke to a Tier 2 and changed the address; [*] 22 May 2013 - Address updated on My Case Status (finally can see the case numbers online); [*] 28 May 2013 - Letter received in the mail confirming the change of address; [*] 31 July 2013 - Went to Romania; [*] 12 September 2013 - returned to the US using the AP, POE Houston, everything went smoothly; [*] 20 September 2013 - Spoke to a Tier2 and put in a service request; [*] 23 September 2013 - Got "Possible Interview Waiver" letter (originally sent on August, 29th to my old address, returned and re-routed to my current address); [*] 1 October 2013 - Started a new job.

I have been scheduled for an interview for mid-June, but I did not go through the K1 process. I have heard/read about some cases that went through the K1 process and did get interviewed. No worries! and congrats!

No worries! We got approved and received my husband's conditional green card without an interview as well :)

I just figured it was because we had an interview at the consolate before my husband entered the country.

Congrats! Breath a sigh of relief, no more paper work for 21 months!

We got an early interview…..either way, it is a luck of the draw.wacko.png Trying to figure out USCIS is an exercise in futility.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yep, normal. It's a double edged sword. People who get an interview get through the process much quicker, we had an interview, and had our green card in hand about 10 weeks after filing our initial AOS paperwork. Some people waiting without an interview wait 9 months or more. So I'm glad we had the interview, was pretty painless, and now my wife is 7 or 8 months closer to her citizenship.

But lots of people do not get interviews when going from K1, so be happy, and nothing to worry about! Congrats!!!

I've been wondering how they determine who gets processed without an interview and who will get an interview... I feel lucky that I got scheduled for an interview, makes the whole process much quicker. If I get approved (I don't see why I shouldn't...), the whole process from filing I-485 to having my green card will be less than 3 months...

For the most part it seems to be completely random and a 50/50 chance. Also, how quickly you get scheduled for an interview would depend on how backed up your local USCIS office is or not.

Well, I will be grateful that we didn't have to stress over an interview on top of everything else we're stressing out about :) I'm glad to know this is normal, and I'm glad I don't have any more paper work for a while :D

FYI. More I-485 applicants get an interview than do the I-751. There are those rare few that can get thru both without an interview, but it seems most have an interview for AOS and then do not for ROC. Since the OP is doing ROC, no interview is more the norm. For you doing AOS, an interview is more the norm.
