Just received two text messages and one email : On August 15, 2013, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview. You will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview. If you have not received the notice within 30 days of the date the notice is mailed, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address

Now I am going to be checking my mail box at least daily :P Anybody knows how long it takes to get the interview date after your status changes online?

For the LA people...I see naturalization dates at the Los Angeles Convention center scheduled in September,November and December .... any reason or idea why they wouldn't be scheduling a date in October?

We got the notice that we were scheduled, but then 4 days later got a letter the interview had been cancelled... Then 2 days later got the letter telling us of the interview appointment (which was cancelled). Then 2 weeks later to get them to give us a new interview appointment and oath date.

Thanks! I received an email and text about being scheduled for interview on Aug 8th and received the interview letter on Aug 12th. I updated my timeline in my signature so you can see all the dates. The good news is you should receive it within 30 days of notification. How's the studying coming along?

I think I am all set with the studying ...I need the letter now to schedule my work as per the date and time! How about you?

I have been receiving all USCIS mail within 5 days....thats why I am a little worked up with no show interview letter now. :-(

There ya go, Princess! Made 'em smaller. I dont like it smaller than that though. That's why it's MY signature. But on a happy note, there is a scroll bar on the right side of the screen you can click on to ZIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP right past me! smile.png I'm just too proud of my wife and son and want the world to see!smile.png Am especially proud of her military service... That is so awesome to me.

To everybody else, I met my wife after work to go to the Social Security Administration today. We gave them her drivers license, certificate of naturalization and old social security card and app and they got it all done for her real quick. She will receive a new card in the mail in 10 business days or less, a US citizen Social Security card.

I filled out a new I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification form) for her last night, for all her employers. The Certificate of Naturalization is not listed anymore as acceptable documents for proof of citizenship for that. I provided all this proof for her one employer, and they didnt even look at it. No wonder we have so many illegals working in this country. She has 2 other jobs to turn that in for too. But now in the work force she should (or will) be updated to US Citizen.

On Monday we will get her a US Passport.

My interview experience:

So I showed up to Philly's location around 12:47pm for my 1:30 appt but was running "late" due to traffic. I got a pretty good spot at the kiosks to the sie of the building (first time) and helped this Spanish-speaking lady figure the payment method. I was in line to enter the building within 5 mins and although there were quite a few people in line, I was inside by 1:04 pm...

I went through the security check-point and had to take off all my jewelry and it just so happen to be the one day I had on a necklace, bracelet, and a few rings. So there was a russian chick and her husband standing in front of me in the line and we all got sent to the 2nd floor to see the receptionist, We arrived only to be sent to the 3rd floor, where I assume is the location for citizenship interviews. I mumbled to her that I really wasnt following her and she snickered that I was telling a lie lol.

As we got up to the receptionist's desk, they took our interview notification and asked us to have a seat, which was around 1:17 pm . I just so happen to sit near the Spanish lady I had helped earlier. As we chatted, we realized that 1) she was from Dominican Republic and she had to call me bluff cuz Im headed there on Monday and it was just so odd, and 2) we live in the same area in Delaware (life is funny). She bragged about how beautiful her country was and it just made me more excited to visit. She gave me a few tips on where to go and where to visit on my next trip.

By 1:23pm a young man called my name to come back for my interview. I followed him to his deck and we did the whole swearing thing. We sat down and he asked me to verify the demographics that were included in my application and asked for my ID, GC and passport. Next, he asked the whole ever voted, told anyone you were a citizen, communism, drugs, illegal participation stuff and then if I aggree to uphold the constitution. My new Dominican friend sat in the cubicle behind me and let out a squeal when she saw me lol

He was all speedy gonzalez on me and was like, ok, here we go; gonna start the civics test:

I was then asked to read "What was the first capital of the United States?" and I then had to write "New York was the first capital of the United States"

He atarted with the questions (not in correct order or verbatim)

  1. How old do citizend have to be to vote in a federal election? Citizens 18 and older
  2. What is one freedom from the First Ammendment? Speech
  3. If the President can no longer serve, who takes over? Vice President
  4. What was the main concern during WWI? Communism
  5. Who is in charge of the executive branch? The President
  6. Who writes federal laws? Congress

He then let me know that we were done. I said he only asked 5 questions and he replied that he asked 6 but we were talking so casually and fast that I guess I didnt think about what he was asking. He said "Well, I know this is last minute but we have an Oath ceremony on Friday. I know its only two days but is this an option?" I explained to him that although I'd appreciate it, we will be going to DR on monday so I'd need my GC or passport. I then told him that I suggested to hubby that we go to PR instead and the IO chuckled and said "Yea because you wouldnt need anything more than an ID."

He was like, ok, you are done, do you have any more questions? I asked about an Oath ceremony in Delaware. He said he wasnt very familiar with our state's schedule but he knows that we had one in June at my university (U of DE). He added that they will send me a letter with the available times but that they would want to wait until they have about 50 ppl. He asked if I had anything else to ask and I said no. He showed me the way out and say Congrats again. I shook his hand and told him thanks.

All in all, I drove 1 1/2 hours in traffic for a 10 min interview lol... I was at my car by 1:34pm but I was glad it was over.

My interview experience:

So I showed up to Philly's location around 12:47pm for my 1:30 appt but was running "late" due to traffic. I got a pretty good spot at the kiosks to the sie of the building (first time) and helped this Spanish-speaking lady figure the payment method. I was in line to enter the building within 5 mins and although there were quite a few people in line, I was inside by 1:04 pm...

I went through the security check-point and had to take off all my jewelry and it just so happen to be the one day I had on a necklace, bracelet, and a few rings. So there was a russian chick and her husband standing in front of me in the line and we all got sent to the 2nd floor to see the receptionist, We arrived only to be sent to the 3rd floor, where I assume is the location for citizenship interviews. I mumbled to her that I really wasnt following her and she snickered that I was telling a lie lol.

Automatic Conversion of F2B petition and Retention of Priority date of an F4 petition as derivative beneficiary of dad filed in 1982 by his sister (hereinafter referred to as the "Automatic Conversion and Retention" clause of the CSPA). With the help of a lawyer from Los Angeles - who sent lots of briefs and case laws previously cited by the Board of Immigration Appeals, and Federal Courts to support our arguments.

03/04/2007 - Notice of Action for AOS Received

03/31/2007 - Biometrics Appointment

06/--/2007 - Interviewed in Chicago, District Adjudicator unable to approve AOS outright as more time was needed to review our case arguments, will notify us of the decision.

08/03/2007 - Decision on AOS - "DENIED" on the basis that F2B petition filed by mom was not current. USCIS misconstrued the basis for eligibility for AOS. (Copy of F2B petition mom filed only submitted as evidence that I sought to acquire status as a permanent resident within one year of the availability of the visa (F4 visa current on 12/2004), a requirement for seeking relief under CSPA and INA 203(h)(3))

08/28/2007 - Filed Request for Reconsideration of Decision on Adjustment of Status Application Based on Service (USCIS) Error, that filing for AOS eligibility was based on dad's 1982 petition, that CIS made an error in determining eligibility. (Motion to Reconsider on Form I-290B was filed without a fee, lawyer argued due to the fact that basis for AOS was erred by the Service)

01/24/2008 - Motion to Reconsider/Appeal Rejected by the USCIS District Adjudicator in Chicago due to non-payment of fee.

02/15/2008 - Re-submitted Motion to Reconsider Denial of AOS to Permanent Resident on Form I-290B, Notice of Appeal to the Administrative Appeals Office (AAO), Washington, DC.

02/19/2008 - USCIS received re-filed Motion to Reconsider with a fee of $585. Motion to Reconsider was later transferred to the Administrative Appeals Unit (AAU) in Chicago, IL.

07/28/2008 - Motion to Reconsider Denial of Adjustment on Form I-290B was reconsidered. USCIS Director in Chicago in its own motion submitted a Motion to Reopen, to reopen the case in its entirety. USCIS Director requested for 2nd interview and biometrics (after I sent tons of inquiries to the US Senators Barack Obama and Richard Durbin representing Illinois)

08/02/2008 - 2nd Biometrics Appointment

08/18/2008 - Dad filed another F2B petition requesting F2B conversion from F4 under CSPA and retention of his priority date of 1982. (CSPA decisions and case laws with BIA, Federal Courts and Court of Appeals for the 5th and 9th Circuits do not require that petitioners on later filed F2B petitions be the same as the beneficiary of the original petition, in my case dad was the beneficiary of an F4, but USCIS stance on conversion is that it does not apply to other immigration petitions except F2A and it should not be considered automatic in nature, therefore filing is necessary). A new F2B petition to the derivative beneficiary of the original petition would not have been necessary as afforded by the Act, but the USCIS does not conform to its automatic conversion clause as was on the Act.

(without 2nd interview as originally requested on CIS letter when decided to reopen the case). {Approved AOS based on a hard fought CSPA Automatic Conversion of my F4 derivative status to F2B and Retention of dad's Priority Date of 1982 (therefore making the F2B petition current having retained dad's PD). Law that the government decided to ignore for more than a decade now since the Act was enacted in 2001 signed by President Bush. (The lawyer who represented my case before the District Office Director in Chicago was from the same law firm in Los Angeles who sued the government, in a class action, due to its restrictive interpretation of CSPA denying benefits to those who are otherwise beneficiary of the law, those children of intending immigrants who aged out due to no fault of their own. The law firm was successful in overturning Federal Court ruling in Los Angeles when it appealed the class action to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, En Banc decision.) The government then appealed the decision En Banc of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals (which basically entitled "aged outs", or those derivative beneficiariess of any family based, employment based, diversity visa categories, who turned over 21 yrs of age, to join their parents upon receiving permanent residency status) to the Supreme Court, conjoined Federal Courts decisions out of the 2nd and 5th Circuit Courts of Appeals. PENDING before the Supreme Court, anticipating decision or ruling in 2014.}

As for my interview letter, I called the USCIS today spoke with 2nd Tier Immigration Officer again, asked her why I still have not received the letter and it concerns me if I would have an interview right about the same week I would have surgery, she said it was mailed Aug 13 and I should wait 7-10 days from Aug 12 when my online status changed to "scheduled for interview", if I dont receive it by then to call again but she couldnt tell me when the interview date is and their policy is not to tell the clients until 5 days before the scheduled interview in cases where letters don't get to the applicants so that they dont miss the appointment. That means we dont really have to wait 30 days to initiate a follow up. I pressed her to give me an idea as to when I am scheduled for interview, she said after the 2nd week of September. I feel that I would receive it tomorrow.
