Hello everyone,

I am just curious of anyone has gone through AP at the Lima, Peru embassy? If so, how long did it take for you?

I am well aware of the whole "gray zone" nature of AP and I am fine with that. Personally, I find it super annoying because we were assured by the interviewing embassy agent that it would only last 2 weeks maximum and here we are over 6 weeks later (my apologies to the people waiting far longer than this) and its slowly sneaking up on both my finacee's travel date and our wedding date. I guess its my own fault for believing the agent so readily and not waiting till the Visa was in our hand. I guess I have just read way to many posts here about K1 visas being issued quickly in Lima.

Additional info

K1 sent July 31st, 2012

Noa1- Aug 3, 2012

Noa2- Feb 13th, 2013

NVC- Feb 28th

K1 Interview and approval- April 16th 2013th (no issues, nothing missing, fiancee's B1/B2 canceled and passport returned)

Any feedback on your own experiences are welcome.

Hi Dr. Kev,

What was the outcome? I sincerely hope you've gotten your visa by now. My fiance will have his K1 interview in Lima on August 21st, and we're desperately trying to keep our plans for a Sept. 1st wedding (crazy, I know... we've warned everyone it might be a party rather than a wedding). Also, could you confirm for me what the visa fee was for you, and if you can only pay it at the time of the interview (rather than online)? I keep seeing conflicting information. Thank you, and best wishes to you!

*Aug. 21, 2013 - Interview date!

*Aug. 26, 2013 - medical exam (earliest date he could get)
*Sept. 1, 2013 - Planned wedding date (fingers and toes crossed!... we know, we're crazy)... not approved in time :(

*Sept. 2, 2013 - Picked up medical exam results (first day available; needed 5 business days + national holiday)

*Sept. 3, 2013 - Hand delivered medical exam results to the embassy; VISA APPROVED!!!!

I wish I had better news, but we are still stuck in AP sadly. I think our AP taking so long due to a combination of two factors. The first is my fiancee has a very common last name. I am sure she had a ton of common name hits on the background check. There also might have been some paperwork issues that held us up. We are not sure though. The people at the embassy, though polite, rarely give out any definitive answers regarding AP status. That seems to be the norm anywhere in the world it seems. I called the DOS the other day and was told a decision for the AP is coming soon. So, we are still hoping. 100 days and counting...

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that! At least it's a great testament to your relationship that you're sticking it out through all of this. Best of luck to you.

Update: AP status changed to ready at ~ 5 months (100 business days) after we were put on AP. We expect to have the visa in hand by the end of the week, or next week.

Moral of the story: Individuals going for a K1 visa in Lima Peru. Do not plan your wedding or buy plane tickets, even if they tell you it will only be a few days or weeks of AP. We learned our lesson the hard way.

Congratulations, finally... and very sound advice indeed.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
