My wife's AOS interview is on Dec 11. I noticed that one of the required documents listed in the interview letter is a certified copy of the marriage certificate. Who can certify a copy? We have the original marriage certificate.

A certified copy is a copy made by the original issuer of the document and marked that they certify that it is an accurate copy., so in my case if i marry in my local town, I would get additional copies from my town hall, where the original came from.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copy_certification for more.

If you bring the original to the interview it is all that they will need, they can make a copy of it and attach it to their file. If you did not have the original then you would have to get a certified copy from where you were married.

Hi- You have to order a copy of a marriage certificate from the Recorder's Office from the County clerk where you got married. You can have a copy mailed to you or you can pick it up, try a search on where you got married to check the details. I would try and do that as soon as possible as sometimes it can take a few weeks.

Good luck!

I had to get one for my K-1 .. As YuandDan said....City Hall or/and Records dept. They will copy it for you but then they date and sign it ..so You have a clerks signature.. to insure it's accurate(Like a Notiary).. You might get several while your there..as I did ..I got three but I might need to get more before all this is over...

Our marriage certificate was issued in India. It will be very long wait for me to get a another copy if I can get it. Is my signing a copy as being an true unalterted copy and getting my signature notarized worth anything?

No, in you case I would go to the local court house, county records office, and have an officer of the court make certified copies. Edited by YuAndDan

You have the correct one....that was the one that got you through the process up to this point(presumably).....and that is what you need now.
