Jay-Kay, one gathers information by learning, which includes mistake and guidance. I DID in fact research and look it up, and the information I FOUND stated what I said (as I linked to it and quoted it). However I was under the impression that they were looking for a co-sponsor for their AoS, not their K1. This was my mistake in skimming through the thread instead of reading all the posts and I admit this entirely. I also did state that I could be wrong, and asked for clarification.

Secondly... while I understand that misinformation confuses... if I truly felt I had no idea what I was talking about I most certainly would not have posted intentionally incorrect information. I avoid posting information in threads I have no clue on the answers for.

As for "trying to act like you had no clue". I edited the thread and deleted the quote less than a minute after I posted it when I realized it was all wonky, I don't even REMEMBER who it quoted or what it said, I just remember grumbling at the WYSIWIG editor with no title tags over the icons so I knew where the code mode was. .__. I'll make sure that I dot ALL my i's and cross ALL my t's moving forward.

Just remember you started from somewhere too, and I'm sure once upon a time someone decided to ream YOU for posting "misinformation" when you thought you had it right.

As for the affidavit of support...

The K1 requires the affidavit of support from the sponsoring fiance(e), what types of incomes are NOT considered. I hear SSI isn't from one, and it is from another. I hear the same for unemployment income too. I also am fully aware that collecting welfare (including foodstamps) will disqualify you, which makes sense since then you'd be under the poverty level for your family size.

I'm currently employed and have been for the last 5 years (yay for the IT field), however I hate not getting straight answers when I'm looking stuff up. It leads to confusion of facts. I looked into it some, as my company has been doing some random layoffs of employees who've been around for a while, but like I said I can't really find any consistent, concise answers.

Yes, once upon a time I was given great advice, to not answer if I did not know for sure I was answering with the correct information. It was good advise and I never thought it was rude at all.

No one is perfect and I make mistakes at times too. But I absolutely hate it and myself if I give someone bad information.

What you posted was incorrect no matter if you were using the I-134 for a K-1 or the I-864 for AOS. The link you quoted a post from did not contain the misinformation you posted. The only thing that was correct was that a co/joint sponsor's assets are used at 5 times, but the assets of the primary sponsor are only 3 times. Since I reread your original post, I think you were speaking of the assets for a co/joint sponsor. How to count household size and info about assets can be found in the I-864 form instructions.

SSDI is not means tested and is perfectly acceptable income for an affidavit of support, as is retirement and other forms of income. SSI is means tested, so while you can list it, it probably will not be considered by the CO. Unemployment is temporary, so the same applies. You can list it, but it probably will not be considered as it is not stable, ongoing income. You would need a co-sponsor.

Collecting food stamps does not automatically disqualify you. If they make enough to meet the income requirement but receive food stamps, they can still sponsor. Some consulates only require 100% of the poverty level, which is only a bit over $15k for 2 people. Even with the 125% it is only a little over $19k. With those income amounts, it is possible someone could qualify for food stamps and still have enough income for the affidavit of support.

If you have questions, just post and ask for clarification instead of posting what you perceive to be right as an answer. There are many knowledgeable people here on VJ that have been through the various immigration stages that stick around to help others get through it successfully too.
