I rent from a friend at my work i.e. no rental agreement just a verbal contract. Does anyone have an example statement or affidavit for the AOS interview that I could use for the wording. Much appreciated thanks!

It does not require any specific language. Just have your friend to the writing as he sees appropriate.

In some states it is illegal to pay rent in cash, and if you live in one such state, make sure to present canceled checks or electronic transfers as proof of your renter status.

We had a notarized statement from the friend we rent from. I haven't had the chance of using it though, as my interview hasn't been scheduled yet. It reads (more or less):

NAME

ADDRESS1

ADDRESS2

PHONE NO

DATE

United States Department of Homeland Security

U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services

To whom it may concern:

I, XXXXXX XXXXXX, born in XXXXXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, do hereby declare:

I am the owner of the house/apartment at the address XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX;

XXXXXX XXXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX have been living together in said house/apartment since XX/XX/XXXX, and pay a monthly rent of $XXX.XX.

I declare under penalty of perjury under the laws of the United States of America that the foregoing is true and correct.

Yours truly,

XXXXX XXXXXXXX

I think it's actually good to know, so you can check the regulations in your State.

Gegel, we pay with checks that we mail to the landlord, but I have never thought we might need the canceled checks as proof. Do you think I should ask the landlord for them, in case I get an interview? Thanks!
