Um....nobody even suggested banning guns. Why does the argument always run to that end?

It's like not allowing texting while driving...does it mean they want my phone?

In many many ways, the phone has actually saved more lives and is actually better at protection. So where is the outrage on phone rights?

There's no common sense in this debate, its all or nothing.

You are right it is all or nothing. The loony left always comes out wanting to limit magazine capacity and ban guns because they look like Hollywood movie guns. By the time we get to sensible measures, the left has exhibited it's complete lack of commonsense on gun control, that the debate is shut down.

No texting while driving makes sense. The assault ban analogy would be wanting to outlaw car chargers because people are getting killed while texting and driving. Something that has absoulely nothing to do with the real problem.

No, the title was changed because some sissy gun packer whined to a mod.

Surely not. Us 2nd amendment guys don't whine and report, we leave that to the often offended left and Mu****. women brigade.

Its about checking who's getting a gun...not taking anything away from anyone?

I have a concealed weapon permit, but to get that permit I had a background check done. I didn't think twice about it because that's a reasonable expectation.

I don't know what the big deal is? To get an apartment they do more of a check on people?

I carry a concealed weapon without a permit since anyone here can. We don't need no stinkin' permit or background checks and our state has lower crime than yours. Background checks cause crime. Restricting who can carry guns causes crime.

The NRA supported the current background checks done by dealers at all sales, and in fact proposed the amendment to the "Brady Act" that made them reality, They supported expanding the system to ALL sales with an online DIY system which is fully feasible. That amendment was ready to be added in the House. The Dems wanted much more than that and you think it is about background checks because you did not read the proposed bill. One example is that it required all sales to go through a dealer and for each seller to prove "legal ownership" of the firearms being sold. So how do I prove I legally own the M1895 Winchester my Grandfather bought used in 1916? See? THIS is where it goes and you go along with it because you judge by some sound bite you heard on TV.

They should do more of a check to get an apartment.

More proof that gun owners operate within the rules. The letters were probably sent by Bloomberg himself.

1. You made the comparison of banning texting while driving, not background checks on people texting. Make up your mind.

2. How would you feel about background checks for cell phones? For email? Facebook accounts? Online bank accounts? All these things are used by criminals. At the very least anyone listing on Craig's List or dating websites should have to have a background check. Why not just apply IMBRA to all domestic dating sites? You OK with that?

A little background check wouldn't hurt.

Your analogies have no relevence to the issue and indicate a lack of knowledge of the issue. Concealed carry permits do not bestow knowledge.

NO COMPROMISE. You want background checks? Then we do it in a way that makes it easier for good people to obtain firearms, not more difficult.

The NRA proposed opening the system for online access. One would create an account and conduct a backgorund check on yourself, pay the fee online with a credit card, debit card, online check or PayPal. Payment could even be mailed and applied to your account. The results of the background check can be printed and are valid for 5 days, just as current checks are. The buyer can then take his background check with him to the gun shop or gun show and give a copy of it to the seller(s).

Why would anyone who wants background checks be against that?

That was you?

What did I say that would indicate that? Oh, right. Nothing.

I actually give Penguin enough credit for figuring things out for herself. Don't you?
