Certified marriage certificate

Hi,

I have question about certified copy of marriage certificate. The one we have , we requested it from Erie county in PA where we got married.

The certified copy has a original white looking seal on the paper, our names and then the signature.

But the signature is not original as in whoever singed it did not actually use the pen or something on the certificate.

I saw on one thread here that you need original signature on the marriage certificate.

The title of the marriage certificate say

'Certification of Excerpts From Marriage License Record State of Pennsylvania County of Erie'

Would our marriage certificate work?

Thanks!

They accept certified copies, and it doesn't need an original signature. In fact, I don't think certified copies have original signatures at all. In California, they actually gave me back my certified copy and said they accepted photocopies of the certified copy.

You just need to send a copy of the certified marriage certificate you get back from the court. Some have stamps and seals. An actual person does not necessarily sign each one.

You need to send a copy of the certified marriage certificate you get back from the court after your marriage has been registered. You cannot send a souvenir copy of the marriage certificate. It has to be the one that comes from the court.

Are you sure about this?

Certified copies take some weeks to be processed. I'll have to check with my county.

But my fiance and I dont have time probably to wait for a certified copy- are you positive about this?

I believe we can just send a copy of the certificate- not a certified copy?

It's a copy of the certified marriage certificate that you need, not a certified copy of the marriage certificate. Two slightly different things. You can just make a photocopy of the one the registrar sends you, you don't need to order extras.

Yes, I am sure. A certified marriage certificate is simply the one that is mailed to you or you pick up from the court after your marriage is registered. It is the official recorded document you receive from the government that proves you are married. The one you get from the court is the one you need. There is nothing else you need to do to it to 'make it certified'.

Okay that is what I meant- thanks.

Just so you know there is a way to get a certified copy. Which is why I asked :P

I obviously would be getting the certified marriage certificate- but I just wasnt sure if a photocopy of it (for mailing purposes) was okay. Now I know it is- Thank you.
