I-864, part 5

We are trying to finish the final filing for AOS.

Working on I-864 and have some questions. All the sample forms I found online were outdated versions, and we have a joint sponsor so its been hard to confirm.

Part 5. Sponsor's Household Size (this is in regards to our joint sponsor's form)

1. Enter the number you entered on line 7 of Part 3. (total immigrants is only 1) = 1

2. Yourself = 1

3. If married, enter "1" = 1

4.-7. are all 0

8. Add together lines 1-7 and enter number here. Household size:

We don't understand #8, adding all lines 1-7 together would = 3, but the sponsored immigrant does not live with the joint sponsor so actually the joint sponsor's household size is only 2.

Its real easy but somewhere we are not reading it correctly, any advice?

The immigrant counts in the household size for the joint sponsor.

The joint sponsor needs to qualify for their family (themselves, and if applicable, spouse, kids, and dependents) PLUS the immigrant.

So even though the immigrant does not live in the same household, the immigrant is still counted with the joint sponsors household. Got it!
