Could you keep us posted of when your cheque gets cashed/you hear something, as I'm about a week behind you on this step. Thanks! (This whole process really teaches you what patience is huh!....)

Will do! Just checked my bank account and no cheque cashed as yet. But as soon as I hear anything I will pop back with an update.

I'm not a patient person so this is all torture good practice for me! ;)

What do your certificates say? "No trace" I assume?

I was looking at the embassy details, and they've thoroughly confused me. No Trace = No record, right? At least, that's what I've understood so far (I have no record). So why does it say... (from http://london.usembassy.gov/document_checklist.html#police_certificate_uk)

If the police certifiate states "No Trace" or "No Live Trace", please be prepared to discuss your arrests/cautions/convictions with the consular officer on the day of the interview.

It makes it sound that no trace or no live trace indicate a record somehow? I'm now like, #######? Is there a third statement they can put on the certificate that means "no, really, no record"?

Mine says exactly the same 'No Trace' and I read the link you added a few weeks ago and got concerned. I've never ever been in trouble in my life, so why would they say on the link 'No Trace' means you have to be prepared to dicuss any arrests/cautions/convictions, when you haven't had any? Just something else to worry about...pfftttttt lol

No Trace=No worries

There is nothing to discuss.

No Live Trace=Conviction.

Order a Subject Access Report to support your "discussion".

I think the red writing is an error or poor wording in this version of the website re-do.

It says No Trace, yes. I've never even remotely been in trouble in my life.

I am going to assume it's poorly worded and nothing to worry about. The letter which came with the cert itself states that No Trace = all clear, nothing to report. So I guess I/we could take that along as additional proof, if required.

I promise you they won't even bring up your police report with a no trace. They never have.

A good deed for you and the rest going to interview would be to print out their web page in full with the red writing. Then when at the second window with the interview person say, "may I point out something to you that confuses people?"

I would do it in a heartbeat, but our chance at the embassy is past. I have actually sent emails twice to the webmaster address provided, pointing that out as well as a few other misleading things. No reply. Nothing. I'm not going to spend 20 bucks to call to get an email code to email an officer. Maybe I should write a regular letter to the head guy.

Will definitely mention it to them. I like chatting with people about their processes (I'm a web dev myself and also work for the uk gov, so I get to see all sorts of dopey things like this and complain about them).

Perfect. Then let me share a few of my other issues. Maybe you know why this page locks up my Windows desktop, laptop, and my iPad. Beware, if you click this link, you will have time to go make a cup of tea. It will eventually load. There will be a right hand column http://london.usembassy.gov/kprocessing.html

So on the above page it says

It is important that you do take action immediately and return the Application for Immigration and Alien Registration, Form DS-230-1, Part 1, Form DS-156 (in duplicate), Form DS-156K, (in duplicate), Form DS-157 (in duplicate) and Notification of Applicant Readiness, Form DS-2001. Note: The failure to return the forms promptly will delay the processing of your application.

Notice that it says complete three forms in duplicate. (And a small thing, but for the DS-230 the "-1" and "part 1" are redundant.)

So then click the link in the right column to the "instructions".

That page says

Complete the Form DS-230-Part 1, Form DS-156 and DS-157 for each family member applying for a visa. In addition, the principal applicant is also required to complete form DS-156K. Note: Forms DS-156 and DS-157 must be completed in duplicate

This instruction says complete two forms in duplicate.

So which is it London? Two or three forms in duplicate?

This page http://london.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/marriage-to-a-u.s.-citizen.html

Second paragraph under under Fiancé Visa

If you will do not intend...... What? Fix your grammar.

Ugh. I see what you mean. They obviously don't proof any of it and are doing it manually through some crappy CMS. The fact that most of the URLs end in ".html" tends to smell of a website that doesn't even use a CMS and is in actuality a bunch of flat files that someone manually opens, edits and re-uploads - which is the WORST kind of horrible way for a person to have to work (since it's easy to screw up the actual markup by mistake). That first link loads slowly for me on my mac, too, which suggests it's just a particularly badly built website. Shocking smile.png

I think there are so many little faults, but adding up to a lot, that it might just be worth me (or anyone who gets to speak to them first in person) if there is someone to email about the issues directly - since SOMEONE, somewhere is manually maintaining the site and they're bound to be physically on the premises.

There is this link that got lost in the last big revision. http://london.usembassy.gov/faffidavit.html

It's very good information for K1s, but you no longer find it from a K1 instruction page. I found it again and bookmarked it by using their search for "public charge".

And at the bottom of this page http://london.usembassy.gov/contact.html

Webmaster

This site is administered by the Public Affairs Section at the American Embassy in London on behalf of the American Embassy. If you wish to report errors in this web site direct your email to weblond@state.gov

I wrote TWICE and got nothing. Not even an automated "thank you for contacting us".
