You cannot stop mom from doing what she wants. If she wants to stay with her sister, that's her right and she can freely do so, even if you're against it.

Regarding the AOS, yes you are financially responsible for mom so she doesn't become public charge. You signed the i-864 when as the sponsor when you petitioned for her and that is enforceable until mom becomes a USC or dies or whatever.

I'm sure you know your mum can do what she wants but I understand your concern.

Firstly, no, her medical bills, her debts, are not your concern. The only time they are your concern is if she uses Federal Means Tested Benefits. if she runs up a credit card bill, that's on her. If she incurs a medical bill, that's on her. It is NOT your responsibility. If she gets a car loan, that's her debt. Again, NOT your responsibility.

It is also not your responsibility to financially support her. You CAN but you don't have to. I could go into details but though the form says it, unless she goes to court and you're ordered to make payments to her, you don't have to. I would be worried about sending her money if you believe your Aunt is using her, but you could if you wanted.

If you believe that she isn't mentally capable of looking after herself, you can seek legal help. You would need proof of course, but this sounds more like your mum just wants to do what she wants to do, which is her right as an adult.

I'm sorry but there's not much you can do. This is why the form is so scary. You rarely know someone as well as you think you do... even a parent. All you can do is hope the best for her. Stop trying to convince her to come back. Stop trying to "control" her and your Aunt may let you speak to her. Right now it appears the Aunt is trying to protect your mum from YOU and YOUR control. So stop trying to control her and just be her daughter and let her live her life.

How is it the petitioner's responsibility if the mom gets mugged?

Exactly- its NOT..

The I-864 has nothing to do with it. If the mom is at the sister's house and have no food etc.. that's not on the petitioner . As long as the mother is not getting govt sponsored public assistance. The I864 doesn't make you responsible for their lodging, bills etc they can move. Just have her update her new address with USCIS to remain in goood standing.

Your concerns are the same that any child has for their mother, however, you are trying to tie her GC status into making demands on her Activities of Daily Living. When you petitioned your mother, there was no guarantee that she would stay with you. As we all know a mother's vision of things, and your perspective of the same are going to be two different scenarios. Yes, we all understand that you are concerned for her safety, but you should discuss this with her.

As far as your financial responsibility, you are only responsible if she applies for ANY means tested benefits, which if she does get injured and applies for Medicaid, then you will have to repay the funds that were received.

Many kids turn around and want to act like the parent

using many excuses, if mom is of sound mind, she

want to live with sister (closer to her age ,same customs)

maybe no desire to be with kids 24/7 and as an adult do

have the right to do that......so what if you end up having

to support mom in any ways financially ?rolleyes.gif I don't believe

that possible muggings created this prob. She may not

want to stay in a house with you and husband (MILs are

usually hated)dancin5hr.gif...so what you want to maybe revoke

the GC? (if you can) sure is messed up, hope you get pass

this thing whatever it is...god bless the family
